But to the original poster, worth every penny!

I didn’t get to experience the “switch from” to a 3090, I started out with it and it’s been a workhorse since day 1.

Nice one best of luck!

I am contemplating it if you notice a big jump form a 2080 I can only imagine the jump from a 70ti!

Is it? The consensus in the wider games world is that they’re absolutely not worth every penny. GPU prices are currently ridiculous. Its worth remembering that they were never designed in the first instance for gaming. They’re complete overkill. Their popularity for gaming was and still pretty much is entirely born out of the fact the 3080 is very difficult to come by and money is no object for some when it comes to getting a new GPU at the moment.

The performance gains of the 3090 over the 3080 for gaming is around 10 - 15% last time I checked and the 3090 is a great deal more expensive.

Well you have a point.

I went from SLI twin GTX980tis to an RTX3070.

Those cards, where SLI was enabled, could easily match the 3070 (mostly). However so few applications use SLI it made sense to me to upgrade to a modern card that can raytrace, and can render complex architectural scenes in 3DS Max using VRAY, along with other things.

It’s also better for FS2020 in VR, and the smoothness generally makes life on the computer somewhat easier.

So each to their own, I guess. I really do agree about the prices though!

Yo,I have to say that I was able to buy it only because I won a ticket to an RTX DAY here in my country so I bought it for 1800 euro, not bad I can say,but of course very expensive.
I can not imagine some who payed 3000 or so for one.
I open this topic because I thought that passing from 2080 ti(amazing card)to a 3090 wouldn’t be that good,in term of performance, but I have to say, that without those shutters, and massive fps drops(jfk as a airport and over France with my 2080 ti I could get only if I was lucky 22 fps of course all ultra settings 4k)flight simulator 30 fps everywhere, is really amazing.
I didn’t tried the 60 fps because in my opinion 30fps locked is super smooth.
Hope 2022 bring the video cards back to their list price

And then there is the 3090ti coming this year which will be ridiculously priced. Hoping I can upgrade this summer or wait for next gen.
Wish I could upgrade but school is in the way.

Chip crisis…skyrocketing prices…very little availability to say nothing…and what are they doing?
3090ti…■■■

How is the 3070? Just ordered a EVGA 3070ti and can’t wait to get it. Now using a 1070ti in VR with not too bad results (little stuttery at times). What’s your typical settings and average FPS? Pretty smooth performance?

In 2D, I have a very smooth experience with settings on high and ultra at 2560 x 1440. Really quite impressive. I only fly GA. A FPS heavy aeroplane like the Kodiak runs very well.

I only use the VR option and it’s pretty smooth there too. Occasional stuttering coming into land, or a very complex airport such as KLAX, but eminently useable.

You’ll enjoy it, I’m sure.

I had to go to eBay to get my 3090. Still waiting for the hair to grow back.

I have the same card about 6 months now. Very happy with it compared to my 1080ti.

The other day I got an email for EVGA finally telling me that the card I was interested in is finally back in stock.

I had my 3090 from eBay delivered on 05/05/2021, and I had signed up for the EVGA notification probably a week or two before that.

It just goes to show how squeezed things continue to be if I had to wait 8 months for a card from the manufacturer themselves to become available.

Congrats on the new card. I couldn’t stomach the ridiculous prices and lack of availability so bought a Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 6 to tide me over for a few years. MUCH better than what I previously had (game is playable and enjoyable at Ultra), but more or less similar performance to what you were describing with your 2080ti (I’m 1440p).

Will wait until proper DX12 and how the sim evolves. Earliest I’ll pull the trigger would be 13th gen Raptor Lake, RTX 4080 and faster DDR5.
