9800x3d doesn’t have any non x3d core.
Right. Sorry. That was my bad
And i believe that’s how multi ccd heterogeneous x3d CPUs supposed work under gaming workloads. AMD chipset driver ensures that gaming workload is scheduled on the x3d cores to make best use of the technology.
The problem with multi CCD processors is that while they are great for highly parallel workloads like rendering, they suffer if they need to exchange data between two cores across CCD. This have latency penalty and reduces performance. I would think despite some parallelization, gaming workloads threads share a lot of common data which means scheduling them across CCD will incur latency penalties. That’s just with homogeneous non x3d CCD. When you mix non-x3d and x3d CCD like in all x900x3d or x950x3d processors, one can have more issues in games if all the threads are not scheduled in same CCD. Threads scheduled on the X3d CCD will be able to utilise the much larger cache but the other threads scheduled on the non x3d CCD won’t be able to do the same and will slow down the entire process due to interdependency between those threads.
That’s why and chipset driver basically cordons off the non x3d CCD for known gaming workloads. This is called core parking i believe. That’s why when you are running MSFS only without much cpu intensive background process, you will see the non x3d ccd basically idling.
Sorry, what? Tell me more!
Only good I think for 2D not VR, but it work wonders for me. Steady 60FPS most of the time. Cheap solution too. Sits external to sim. So is a post sim processing frame generator. Works with any game. Need to have a steam account, but I have one set up just for this app.
970 to 5090? I doubt any other flight simmer in the world will get a bigger upgrade boost than this in 2025!
Btw - for those that live in the U.S. and live in a city where there is a Micro Center computer store the Nvidia 5000 series is coming the end of January (see below). If you’ve never shopped at a Micro Center before, with these types of hot products, they will not ship them - you have to go in-store to purchase.
I’ve found I could never compete with the online bots however I can make a fast dash to a computer store!
EDIT - I got this info via an advertising email from Micro Center with the title “NVIDIA RTX 5080/5090 available on 1/30!”
Omg so unique design! Crazy!!
“3 PCBs connected with 2 proprietary cables to facilitate a second open passthrough airflow fan and 2-slot 575W cooling”
Edit: Oh well… Some of 5080/5090 prices from Europe . It is crazy. Founders Edition is an awesome choice after seeing design and other AIBs prices.
I am not a fan of the new multiple FG feature, I am even hardly ever using single FG at all on my RTX4090. Even in MSFS2024 I don’t use it despite the fact that input lag wouldn’t be an issue in this flight simming scenario. But the side effects are too annoying for me.
For me, the only thing that matters is the rasterization performance of the 5090 and this remains to be seen. I think for any 4090 user there is absolutely no reason to upgrade.
That being said, the new design & format of the 5090 Founders Edition is just pure art and i really love it.
Same here, for MSFS 2024 my setup (specs in my profile) that I added to it 32 more RAM recently, is doing very well and much better than 2020 with the 3090.
But still impressive to see the 5090 capability.
If you don’t run with DLSS, they are saying the increase is only about 20-30%. Its not as large a leap as the 3090 was to the 4090. However, the one thing that will have me buying it is the DisplayPort 2.1. I really want to get the LG 45 inch 5K2K OLED monitor coming out in April, and I would love to be able to drive that resolution without compression.
A 20% increase in raw performance, if that is the case, will be good enough for me coming from a 2070 Super.
I have also been waiting for the display port 2.1 on the Nvidia cards. I think AMD already had this on the their last gen gpus.
Let’s see what the non founder edition prices are though. Hopefully, they are not too stupid.
I don’t think the 5090 can save Nvidia. They have too many obstacles to stay afloat. Losing their fab plants in Asia was a major blow to them. China’s BR100 chip is already faster than the Nvidia A100. We should all be buying cheap 4000 series cards with wads of VRAM. Not happening…
You think Nvidia are on a downward path?
I’m planning to upgrade from my 3080TI to a 5080. It really should have 24GB VRAM.
Absolutely it should.
It paves the way though for a 5080 Super in six to nine months or so which will give us just that. If priced sensibly it will sell like hot cakes.
Jenson Huang knows his market and knows how to make money. Until we have a worthy top end competitor this low VRAM thing on high end GPUs will continuin ad infinitum.
Right. Didn’t think about that. Maybe I should wait.
That would be the sensible thing maybe but there again you can keep waiting for years for the next best thing like me. I still have the 2070 Super from 2019 and an otherwise fairly high spec PC
If I can’t get the 5090 at an acceptable price I will probably get a 16gb VRAM 5080 myself.
Sometimes a bit of fun and QOL comes into play despite it not really being the most sensible thing to do
My 3090 has a custom watercooling.
As tempting as upgrading to a 5090 might aound i will probably hold back.
I am flying in VR and as long as there is no fundamental improvement for VR i do not see a reasonable justification for apending so much money on an upgrade.
So for me it will be the hands-on user reviews for VR that will help me to make a decission.
same here tbh, I,m feeling a bit underwhelmed so far.
