5090 launch was a paper launch sadly. Check you tube on paper launch 5090. Its a good investigation
Yes, disappointing, but not surprising. Gaming media like GN linked above but also PC Gamer, Tech Power Up and other sites are all reporting the same - instant sell out of the 2 new cards, but likely that very low stock availability also played a part.
Personally it’s not an issue - my 4090 does a great job in 4K, and like the majority of MSFS users I’m right on the edge of being CPU limited anyway, so a new GPU is of minimal interest, and I guess the same for a lot of other FS users, who’ve had the last couple of years to get a 40 series card if they wanted one, but will all be more interested in CPU progress.
So is it just down to people still attempting to scalp / con the gullible (I notice there are LOTS allegedly available on eBay), or do users of other popular games really flock to update GPU’s at the earliest release of new kit?
Its not a very good move what nvidia has done. First the disappointing 5080, then the launch without inventory. Its the biggest company in the world but this brushes the trust in the brand for me. But as long as there is no alternative they are sitting on gamers gold.
Sadly there are more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J72Gfh5mfTk They are going for big margins, meanwhile giving gamers the minimum gains. At 4000 series this was already bad, now it is even worse with 5000 series. Have a great positive day you all.
edit:
Sorry I’m not able to create new discussions, and on the 5080 there isn’t one, so I’ll post here.
A couple of screens MSFS2020 over NYC with ASUS Prime 5080 (MSRP) @3.200Mhz and 9800x3d @5.5 Mhz ram 64Gb @6000
Native FPS: 88/91, 8
Graphics settings : ULTRA
Antialiasing:TAA
Frame generation: OFF
TLOD: 130
Real traffic: OFF
Upscaled resolution : (4k) 4472x1872
I would like to see the results of 5080/5090 for MSFS 2024. If anybody was lucky enough to get a 5080/5090, please post your benchmarks for MSFS 2024 here, thanks!
Can someone with 5080 or 5090 test Nvidias new motion smoothing feature in vr. It comes later also to 4000 series.
If some one got one 5090 and had a 8k display, I will be curious to see what it seem…
The more I test MMSFS 2024_beta the more I’m convinced that with my Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX 4090, I don’t actually need an RTX 5090
I posted this yesterday in the VR section.
Settings Ultra / 4K / DLSS “4” (310.1) Quality preset K / Multi FG x4 / RTX 5080 FE
Multiframe gen is quite nice in MSFS 2024 to be honest, fake frame or not doens’t really matter here we are not playing a competitive Valorant nor Fortnite game.
Native TAA I am in the 70fps but on my OLED 42" LG C2 I need to bee closer to its 120hz (even with GSync) to have a smooth feeling when rotating/panning views, so FG is a saviour here.
Ghosting are almost non existent on cockpit display, I only noticed some DLSS related graphics artefacts on water reflections and around planes edges with water in the background. But smoothness is what I want the more.
PS : Yes, this thing is running at 212fps ^^
I usually put a frame limiter at around 112 fps so GSync stay on to avoid screen tearing.
But … at parking when VRAM gets full I got these <20fps stutters like everyone

But there are more issues as reported.

Still no 50 series cards actually in stock at any of the bigger UK retailers, same applies for high end 40 series cards.
You can get them on Amazon or Ebay, but at crazy prices like £3.5 - £4K. The shortage is enough that people are trying to cash in on upgrade fever by offering 3090’s for ridiculous money.
Also no high end AMD Radeon 7900xtx’s to be found either (at least in the U.S.) as from what I understand they are out of production now. Not a good time to be building a high end gaming system!
That’s just crazy! Nothing is available, at all, apart from (in theory) the latest Nvidia cards?
Situation is the same here in the UK - no 50 series cards, no 4080’s or 4090’s and just a few 4070 ti’s at any of the major retailers. A couple of them had a few 7900XTX in stock, but with very limited numbers.
Who sayed that gpus are a bad investment? i funny to see how the used market for the 4090 works here in europe. Prices are fluctuating each day…news about availability 50 series and prices drops or gains. If stock is stabilised and the hype is over, these 4090 will drop to normal prices again. Timing the market is crucial. Is you are to early or to late you loose:rofl:
I am waiting to build my new game pc but will wait till the summer.
The 4090s never had normal prices.
They only fluctuate between overpriced and very overpriced.
No one said they’re a bad investment for scammers and unscrupulous retailers.
For the normal gamer prepared to spend on a high-end GPU it’s very frustrating. People won’t sell on their 4080’s & 4090’s until they can be sure of actually getting hold of a new card.
The majority of normal high end GPU users are going to keep hold of it for 2-3 years until it is eclipsed by more than just a few % (i.e. skip a generation), and in that case will not expect to get back more than they paid for it.
I’m sure some people will see it as an opportunity and jump on it, but not if they intend to get something comparable or better to replace it.
I personaly think that’s the best way to get a big stap forward.
Investing a lot of money every time there comes out a new CPU or GPU is a wast of money in compare to the performance gain.
I try to build a new PC ones in 3 or 4 years.
