Runway approach question and map

I have a question about runway approach

Say you are flying from Heathrow to Gatwick in the UK

Once at altitude and once Gatwick is near - you reduce altitude and speed - but the problem I have is that the runway is going from left to right as I look down - before landing at Gatwick

How can you use the map so that when you are flying from one airport to another - when the destination airport is say 2 miles away - the runway is right in front of you below - for a straight landing - and not side on going from left to right

I am just looking to fly from one big city or airport to another - but the runway alignment is a problem

The map is very difficult to use generally I find to make things easy when flying

Thanks

Don’t you set up some kind of flight plan? So you can see the pink or green line on your aircraft map and follow that. what aircraft are you using?

I am using the same plane as in the tutorials - Cessna 152

I have never used flight plans - don’t know what they are

All I do is go to world map - pick a large airport and runway - use the map to fly in a particular direction to a different airport - and to try and land there

Is it possible to do this ?

Don’t know what the best way is to fly between airports on the Cessna 152

I am a total beginner - and just want to fly from large airport to large airport on the world map

Don’t know if this will help you but it’s a tutorial that explains the basics of flight plans ✈ How Do You Create Flight Plans in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020? ✈ - YouTube

Moved to #student-pilots:basic-gameplay-help

Take a look at LittleNavMap It’s a free program that will create flight plans that you can export to MSFS2020. It will create simple flight plans that just go from A to B, and when you get into it more you can add departure procedures & arrival procedures that will line you up for landing. LittleNavMap will also visually track your flight which is very useful

Thanks - but I am playing on Xbox series X not PC

The question is when I take off on the Cessna 152 say from Birmingham and are flying at altitude - is it easy to land at a large airport - such as Heathrow ?

I am just using the map on the toolbar to fly SE

When I am near Heathrow I descend and reduce speed - but what I quite often find is that the runway is directly not below you, You have to ascend, increase speed, fly out a bit of distance and rotate in direction clockwise or anti clockwise the plane direction - till the landing runway appears in view in an approachable state

Hope this makes sense

I think that’s how it is supposed to work
