I just spotted this which made me very happy:
Words cannot describe how excited I am for Safe Glide (the glide ring). It’s one of the major draws for the TDS 750 for me which I was so tempted to buy, but ultimately I don’t fly enough planes with the 750 and it has other major downsides.
Is this going to be available for other planes too, or only the SR22? I assume it’ll be natively supported by the 1000 units and just needs enabling. If so, please do enable it for the default planes. I hope then PMS can use the tech and put it into their GTN unit too. I don’t think the 3/5000 units have it, but if they do that would be awesome too on those big screens.
I’ve held off on joing the beta until now, I hope the SR22 and safe glide will come to beta soon then I’ll def. join
Happy weekend!
This was a bit of a misprint. SafeGlide is not planned at this time as it requires access to terrain data in the avionics.

Oh. Well now you’ve made me sad
I hope it can be added at some point in the future. I think it’s a great feature in the real units, and probably something partners would want to showcase.
In any case, appreciate all the work you guys are doing on the avionics.
Might be a stupid question
the SR22, as it has a G1000, doesn’t it feature topography overlay for its map? So there must be some sort of DEM available for the G1000 to read and display. Is there no way to read this DEM? Is that an API limitation?
The sim provides a map terrain graphics API. We use that API to tell the sim how to draw the terrain layer (colors, drawing mode, etc) and it presents the avionics code with a finished image.
okay, so it basically gives you the required output but not the data and way how to get there.
Probably similar to the weather api which doesn’t allow for proper wx radars, the terrain api doesn’t allow for things like smart glide.
I hope both can come in the future.

I believe it’s a licensing reuse issue for the raw data.
Well hopefully with WT being first party, and the avionics being first party, the licensing issues are easier/can be resolved.
It’s such a pity, I watched lots of videos yesterday of the Garmin safe/smart glide features and was really quite excited to see it in action especially in mountains terrain.
It’s not an issue between us (WT) and Microsoft, as explained in the dev Q&A it’s an issue with the data providers themselves, of which there are tens to hundreds.
Even if terrain data was available, the SR22T would not have this feature. Smart Glide is a Gamin feature, however it is not in the real Cirrus SR22 G6 Perspective+ implementation. It is also missing in the newly announced G7 from Cirrus so wouldn’t expect it anytime soon
