I have one of those old Saitek trim wheels. Can’t get it to work in MSFS2024. Confirmed it works in windows via a little plugin in the notification bar so there is that. Any idea?
Same. It shows under Win11 Game Controllers and it registers input there. It correctly shows up in MSFS24 control section as a device, but when I try to assign trim axis to it it doesn’t register any input (i.e., can’t bind the axis, no movement detected). The trim wheel also shows up in SPAD.next and I can forcibly assign the trim axis to it, but when I actually move the trim wheel nothing happens in the sim.
I’m having the exact same problem with MSFS2024. Works fine in 2020. Seems 2024 sees it but doesn’t see any movement and isn’t working.
I got it working yesterday in MSFS24. Requires using SPAD.next, so if you don’t own that you’ll have to buy it. Here’s the step-by-step I used:
SETUP:
- Boot up computer
- Move trim wheel to wake it up. For some reason, even if you disable Windows Power Management suspend mode for the trim wheel it still always goes into suspend mode when you boot up. You should hear the Windows device connection sound.
- Open SPAD.next and assign Nose Up to MSFS24 event of “ELEV_TRIM_UP” and Nose Down to “ELEV_TRIM_DN.” IMPORTANT: WHEN YOU PHYSICALLY MOVE THE TRIM WHEEL, OVERLAID ON THE DEVICE PICTURE IN SPAD YOU SHOULD SEE BLUE ARROWS INDICATING THE DIRECTION YOU’RE TURNING THE TRIM WHEEL. IF YOU DON’T SEE THESE, SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG. Save the event bindings to the aircraft profile of the aircraft you’re flying. If you need more help with SPAD, read their manual, visit the forum, or visit their discord.
- Close SPAD.next
- In MSFS24, make sure there are NO other control bindings to the trim wheel (no keyboard, mouse, or any other controllers that are bound to the trim wheel axis or functions).
ROUTINE USE:
- Boot up computer
- Move trim wheel to wake it up. For some reason, even if you disable Windows Power Management suspend mode for the trim wheel it still always goes into suspend mode when you boot up. You should hear the Windows device connection sound.
- Start MSFS24 all the way until you’re in the cockpit (i.e., ready to fly/start the engine after walk-around).
- Start SPAD.next.
Usually I start SPAD before the sim. When I do that, all the other devices/functions I use with SPAD work fine in MSFS24 EXCEPT the trim wheel. For some reason, the only way to get the trim wheel to work is to open SPAD after MSFS24, so that’s my new start sequence.
