By the book yes, but in real life (in US) not really, not to say not at all. Same for the “decimal” in France.

Looks intersting, but as long as it’s just for the US, I’m not really interested.

Looks great but the better question would be why cant Asobo’s ATC work like this?

ATC third party developers can specialise and be relentless in making the most detailed and complete program possible for anyone who feels as passionate about ATC as they do.

Asobo need to be generalists, as they have many elements to cover in the sim for it to appeal to the widest possible audience.

And, of course, the infamous ‘PaPah’ that we always pronounce as ‘Pappa’. But that might be a Dutch thing.

End of 4q 2023 is approaching and still no news…

I doubt it would be a problem – just that I have absolutely no idea how ATC works in Europe. Would need to partner up with someone who really understood the nuances extremely well in order to get the AI model right.

I’m not opposed to supporting it - and there’s no reason we can’t. Right now I’m concentrating on getting the minimum viable product out the door.

#1 Thank you, and congratulation on taking on this challenge to produce a better ATC system

You have my full support, and if others support the sales of your initial product, hopefully you can grow your Development group, and make the app even better !!!

Its not easy to tackle such a complex app, and is probably way too much for just one person to be able to develop in a reasonable time,

Just watched the Video .. I don’t know if its my imagination, but it seems you can even hear the Controller, taking a breathe, during long clearances !!!
Especially the 1st male controller voice ,

The app seems to be very responsive when talking to you, the pilot, but does it also talk to AI traffic ?
Without communication to other pilots, it could be a big IMMERSION failing, with no “other aircraft” situational awareness.

Simulator ATC is one tough app to take on, and do well.

Great efforts, but I think they underestimate the complexity by a large degree.
That’s not to say don’t do it, but managing expectations with something like this is key. People will expect it to be all singing and dancing otherwise, and when the honeymoon period wears off and lots of niggling accuracy issues show up (guaranteed with current LLM capability even with simple use cases) it could be a customer support nightmare, especially for a small indy shop.

Might be better to niche it down even further to begin with, within VFR/IFR even more, to begin with. Will be a much smaller initial market, but possibly much easier to tune and then grow from there.

I would imagine Navigraph and other companies like that would be doing this already in R&D as well, kind of a natural fit for them.

my 2 yen!

If by any chance someone knows someone that knows someone… etc… Would love to feel my news feed with good progress of SmartSky.ai

It’s too early for both competitors, although B-ATC is putting on a full-court press.

I do fly IFR, but SayIntentions is more appealing to me at the moment. A VFR product is harder to script for than IFR, so if it can hold up without too many compromises, I’m leaning that way.

A couple of things in there that would get me a finger wagging at my home airport. (e.g. “holding short runway 19”… Where? Which taxiway? And ATC telling him to switch to ground while he’s still on the runway. It should be something like “switch to ground when clear”.) But now I’m being pedantic… Overall this is several orders of magnitude better that the default ATC. I’d buy it.

Although the idea AI ATC seems intriguing, I’m thinking their subscription model will be too exclusionary to appeal to a large enough audience to support the needed infrastructure.

I can’t speak highly enough about the work the dev has done on this. It’s really something else. That said, the subscription model will definitely price me out. I might buy a month here or there but I can’t keep that up year round. I hope he finds some ways to lower it over time. But again, it is very cool and I think for people with some extra cash to spend, it’s worth checking out at least!

Now that they released the costs, I am done with SayIntentions for the time being. 25,- per month (i.e. 300 per year) and for that, I can only fly IFR in the US. That doesn’t tick any of my boxes.
My real life EFB service costs less than that…
In addition to working outside the US, BeyondATC aims to also control AI traffic and thus seems to offer a far more complete package for less money.
We’ll see how the two will progress

Edit:
As I was told: it’s only VFR in the US. Sorry for that.
