That looks pretty normal to me. The changes is the LODs changing to different detail levels.
In case of MSFS LODs (level of detail) are build out of square patches when it comes to photogrammetry (the buildings you see in your video are photogrammetry buildings which were created out of aerial photos by an AI).
LODs were introduced to ease the load of graphics cards when displaying 3D objects in the distance by lowering their quality on moving further away as you don’t see smallest details after a certain distance. If you get closer the next higher quality level gets loaded.
In MSFS this is controlled by the “Terrain LOD” which you set to 130. If you increase this slider the LODs will change further away from your aircraft to the next lower resolution level (be aware! I said “aircraft” - if you zoom in you’d still notice the changes as it’s not dependent on the zoom level ). However this comes at the cost of performance.
So this is not a bug as it’s per design to keep your FPS high. On your system however you should be able to get terrain lod to 200/250 without losing too much power.
This is certainly not normal. Why would it be intended behaviour if some scenery would change detail when you are about 100 feet from it? It kills the immersion when random things spawn randomly even at very close range. I can’t remember having this issue since the beginning. I’ll try to set the LOD settings higher and see what happens.
Well, that’s exactly the reason why there is a dedicated TLOD setting for you to adjust, as it’s not a bug. You can adjust this setting as you like to let that morphing happen further away from your camera but you’ll certainly see why this actually is a thing as your overall performance will drop.
You can try to counteract what that a bit by trying a lower terrain pre-caching setting or switching off live traffic an multiplayer but in any case the TLOD 400 setting will likely kill your performance even on a X3D in high density areas.
It’s basically the most limiting factor because it directly affects your CPUs single core performance (one core will get maxed out) but that is known for a long, long time (just search “TLOD”). Also there is a reason the “Ultra” preset keeps this setting on 200 - everything above does not guarantee that performance will be great even on nowadays high end systems.
I’ll stop discussing this now. You didn’t even set your TLOD to 200 or above as suggested.
To me it looks more like this topic belongs in #community-support as you even say you saw different on others videos, so it’s likely an issue on your client end.
TLOD 200 gives me huge stutters. Having to set such a high TLOD to not experience horrible scenery popping up is ridiculous. Plus, I still had this when i had a TLOD of 200… The problem must be somewhere else. I haven’t been on here for long so i didn’t know it would make a difference where i posted it. Anyway, if you have another suggestion as to fixing the problem that would be great, otherwise i still appreciate your intention to help.
