Scenery Gateway System - World Hub

From what I remember from statements made in a Dev Update, it sounded like it would likely be released again after June or July, most likely later. Maybe we’ll hear more in the next Dev Update?

Hope we’ll see a new WorldHUB update in the next Dev stream.

or at least some news

What’s the hold up on this?

My guess is the team was a bit busy with the state the game has launched in, and couldn’t really spare resources towards this
And there are still behind-the-scenes factors we don’t know of, such as (I’m pretty sure there is) a massive consideration of the legal risks involved, not just in the modder-MS relationship but the IP risks like the building representation. Just because nobody goes after Laminar doesn’t mean they won’t consider a bite off Microsoft.
Or the possible PR nightmare of “first they used AI to build sceneries, then they’re offloading it to paying customers”. Or some other strategic department questioning why should Microsoft facilitate a platform they won’t earn anything from (see: the fight to be able to file Marketplace items for free). Or even a technical problem that arose due to the switch in formats from 2020 to FS24.
These are all speculation, but just to show there can be many, many possible reasons they can’t even reveal to the public

Legal risks and PR nightmare? We already did this and it worked pretty well. Is that better than having unusable or inaccurate airports? The airport issues are doing a lot of harm to career mode and the overall user experience. They stand to gain from the work. Besides, nobody is going to be able to produce an affordable product that fixes 30,000-ish airports and keeps updating the hundreds of changes incurred every single month.

And we can’t manipulate buildings at all in the World Hub, so that’s not an issue.

And the airports I edited in 2020 still work fine in 2024, except for one issue with trees that is tangentially related.

Speculation is right. The only thing I buy is they’ve been busy.

Speaking of speculation, do we know what they’re working on right now? Have they said anywhere or has it been silence from the mysterious chocolate factory? Are folks assuming it’s all SU5 bug fixes and they’re just spread thin, making it seem like progress is coming in at a trickle (even though it might not be)? Or are they working on something big…

I still think the World Hub could elevate this title to the next level. Having a thriving user based modding community has created some of the largest online communities and platforms: games like Minecraft and Roblox and even Wikipedia come to mind. People would probably play Flight Simulator just to build its world if they made the Hub fun and rewarding, or as addicting as the Career Mode. The main argument against this seems to be that this would destroy the third party scenery market, which it wouldn’t. It’s like saying, “well, we could have a vastly better simulator, but we need to protect the profits of a handful of people taking advantage of its shortcomings.” Like peasants defending their feudal way of life, when they could have the renaissance.

Speculation incoming:

Aren’t they still trying to get Marketplace working for PS5 users? That might not be big to some of us, but it probably pretty big for them.

Well said. I don’t know what the hang up is any more than anyone else, but there are things we’ve seen work and not work with the previous iteration, so it’s not completely a shot in the dark.

My hope against hope is that the delay is because they’re improving the UI and the list of enhancement requests we made during the last go-round.
