Scenery that they have, but are not using

Figured it would be so much easier to make a short video showing what I am talking about. Would love to hear what some Asobo guys have to say about this. Much respect to them! But I have been wondering about this for some time now and I’m baffled.

They show Google Earth. The sim is based on Bing Maps. That’s different. The video makes 0 sense.

Apparently you paid 0 attention. I only pulled up google earth to show the most updated images of KDWH in relation to the “side note” of it being a great airport for someone (not Asobo) to do some 3rd party scenery on. The rest of the video features Bing data through the in-sim map view speaking about Asobo default scenery via bing maps.

Bing Maps requires normalization and preparation before it’s used in the sim. That isn’t an overnight operation, and takes a lot of manual intervention - note Martial’s multiple mentions of things such as color matching during the Dev Q&A twitches. The Streaming Service for Maps isn’t the exact same one as Bing Maps called up in a browser. What you’re also seeing is some Level of Detail inconsistencies as you zoom in. With a dataset as large as the actual world, there will always be data integrity issues - it’s just the way things are with that much data. Even Google falls astray of this. Not an excuse, it’s jus the operational reality of Big Data. I deal with that every day at my workplace. It’s a never ending battle to massage the data to where you need it to be.

Good response.
Maybe it’s not an overnight thing. Never figured it was. But it’s been a full year and half. Maybe I’m expecting too much. Lol.
All considered. Like I said, it is really a small issue when you consider the scope of this sim. It’s all really amazing.
