Hey all, wondering how people achieve good screenshots using software and what kind of software? I’m new to taking screenshots using software so any help would be greatly appreciated. Which software is the best to take screenshots and replays etc, and how do people take very good screenshots?
Regards.
Since you used the Store tag, I’m guessing you’re a PC user and not on a console…
I use the Nvidia App. It has a non-intrusive frame-rate counter that you can put in any corner you like, plus a built-in screenshooter that excludes that counter when it’s running.
Another option is the Xbox Game Bar. In Windows 11, if you just hit the PrtScn button, it activates the Snipping Tool. That’s not exactly practical. But use the Win+Alt+PrtScn combination and it takes a shot of the active window. It saves in both jpg and jxr formats.
Both apps start when Windows starts, but they’re very light with small footprints on the OS.
There are other paid and free dedicated screenshooters out there, but between these two, I’ve never needed anything else.
People are saying about SkyDolly, how do I stop the aircraft and take photos?
With both of my methods, you don’t need to stop anything as long as you have a free hand (maybe two free hands for the Game Bar method. The default key combo for the Nvidia screenshot is Alt+F1, so only two fingers needed. Both methods just give you a pop-out notification on the right side of the screen when you take a screenshot. The images are stored in a folder of your choosing. After you’re done flying, just go into the folder and select the ones you like, edit them in Gimp or whatever, and discard the rest.
I looked at SkyDolly and it looks more like a in-game replay utility than a screenshooter.
Both of the methods I posted above also have video capture options as well, so you can capture in-game video that you can edit and post to YouTube or whatever.

I’ve started using SkyDolly quite a bit. Record the session without worrying about taking pics. Key things to note are a) you can only replay the flight while in the active flight session - drop back to main menu and it’s gone, b) repeated replays can sometimes get janky so you might need to replay a couple of times before you get the flight proper and not some bizarre 45° bank into the daisies, but the key for me is c) you can swap all your cameras/angles during the replay to get that perfect shot for a screencap. You can also export flight to GoogleEarth as a KML. I prefer it to Gamebar overall

So can you rewatch individual clip from the replays while in the sim?
