Search & Rescue | Changes that need to happen

I absolutely love the Search & Rescue Missions both in Fixed Wing and Helicopter, but the way the missions are designed currently kills any of that love for 98% of the time I dive into them. This type of mission should be less strict and less focused on what the sim wants you to do, and more so giving the player freedom on how they want to go about completing the mission.

Fixed Wing:

Currently these missions are ones I avoid, sold my aircraft for these because there is no use for it. Spending 15-20 Minutes to get to the search area and find the person only to find out that they’re in the middle of hundreds of trees, cacti, bushes, etc. The only current way of completing these missions is by doing odd landings and just hoping for the best. Avoiding not only fauna, but invisible walls and bushes that can tip your plane over in an instant.

Making Fixed Wing Aircraft Missions Better:

  • Remove the 0.5 NM Limit on walking away from the Aircraft (Abandoning your Aircraft)

So many times there have been locations nearby a perfect road to make as a makeshift runway for landings and takeoffs that are within 1-2 NM of the person we’re rescuing. Would be great to be able to utilize the walkaround feature for more than just pre-flight checks. Instead of doing unrealistic landings on the side of a mountain I’d be happy to land safely nearby and enjoy the world as we hike up to the person.

Removing “Abandoning your Aircraft” would basically improve the Fixed Wing Missions 100%

Helicopter Missions:

  • Same as above regarding the removal of “Abandoning your Aircraft”

  • Remove the Cutscene when the person we’re rescuing hops on (or at least let us keep control over the helicopter) that way cliff side rescues can be done and not just sliding where ever and hoping we can get control back before it crashes into something during the cutscene

  • Once you purchase the Hoist variant of the H125 you should be able to use the Hoist in any SAR Mission. Right now you only have land missions with the non hoist, and only water missions with the hoist.

This would eliminate issues with where people we need to rescue spawn. If I have a hoist and they’re in a forest I’ll be able to deploy that and go on our way, if they’re in a field and it’s safe to land and do a pick up that way great! Would just be nice to have the freedom to complete these missions the way we think is the best possible option. These missions would pop to the top of my most played list if it was that way.

Hopefully I worded this right and my suggestions make sense, hoping to see some improvements to SAR and Career in general in the SU2 Beta!

Besides wanting to compliment you on your username (It sounds like a place where I would be welcome), these suggestions sound meaningful and relatively simple to do.

The invisible walls and boulders tripped me up a few times. There’s no way to reverse on most of the planes. Requesting a push back with the key bind sometimes works.
