Settings not saving after reinstallation in custom folder

Hi,

Since reinstalling MSFS2020 to a custom location (via win10 storage install new applications setting set to this custom location) none of the joystick controls are saved. On restart none of the global settings have been saved apparently. The sim starts as if it were the first time.
Anyone know how to solve this? Or can just show me where the files of these settings reside?

The sim looks great when it works (until it CTD’s), but after only a couple of flights I 've been having nothing but problems. It is a bit of a pity really…
cheers,
Dion

Something to keep in mind is that I don’t think changes to the configs are saved if you have a CTD (or close with the window title close “x” button)

Thanks Dizzy,

But after several restarts where I only applied & saved my settings, none were saved. And with the usersettings beyond reach somewhere in a cloud I don’t know if that is something I want. Whenever the MS/Azure database stuff has a glitch my settings are gone? And we can’t have a backup?
IF FSUIPC is going to solve this it would be very nice, but then we still need FSUIPC for the next decade? By now an FSUIPC-like solution should have been built in from the get go in my opinion. But hey, the graphics are unsurpassed!
So I have uninstalled MSFS for the time being, it is a bit of a pitty as I really looked forward to using this sim, but in its current state it is unusable for me unfortunately… So I will wait for the future improved version and stay with my Orbx stuffed P3D v5, which is not too bad actually.

Hello Dion,

FYI. A local copy of the settings are saved in the following locations depending on whether it is Steam or MSStore …

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs\

or

%APPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs\

Perhaps there is some way to preserve these files so they don’t get overwritten by the cloud.

Also when you save the settings from within the sim, check that you see the spinning icon in the lower right corner showing that the data is being uploaded.

I would try creating a new MS ID and logging in with that. Perhaps your current login has been corrupted at the MSFS server end and is not storing your data properly. Personally I wish there was a way to disable cloud storage of the preferences as there can be synchronization issues which would be hard to resolve (which could be happing right now in your case)

I would raise this directly with the Zendesk (if you haven’t already)

Good luck.

Hi Dizzy,

Thx!
I haven’t heard form the Zendesk yet, but they’re probably very busy. I’ll try to contact them again and hopefully they can resolve my issue.
If we could at least have a local backup that could restore the cloud settings in notime… But in my case I firs tneed to get the show in the air again…
cheers,
Dion

Hi Dizzy,

The settings file locations are nowhere to be found on my PC by the way.
cheers,
Dion

I fixed it! By completely reinstalling Windows10. Thanks Microsoft, great job! Nevertheless
I am very happy with it :sunny:
