Settings to Achieve 4k Graphics with a 12gb RTX 3060

Hello all, I have come across a few settings that enable me to achieve 4K Graphics with my RTX3060 12GB card which I have coupled to an I7-9700k with 32Gb RAM @3200.

I recently swapped out my previous 1080p TV for a 4K TV as it was larger than what I was using before, going from 40inches to 49inches. But with only having a 3060 which I know is not suited to 4K I had been setting MSFS to run at 2560x1440 with DLSS quality setting in DX12 mode, which looked OK, but I wasn’t completely satisfied with it and so decided to tinker about a bit.

Well I usually don’t install geforce experience as I had considered it to be mostly bloat, But I decided to try it again with the latest game ready driver and I thought I would experiment with GPU Image Scaling.

I have found that if I set my TV resolution to native 4K in windows , BUT, set nvidia image scaling to 50% of 4K which is showing as 2048x1080 in the nvidia settings I can achieve 4K in the sim.

Normally nvidia say that to use image scaling you should set the desktop resolution to match the resolution set in MSFS but I didn’t do that, I left it at native and the results are very impressive. I have personally set nvidia DLSS to balanced mode in MSFS and I am able to achieve 45-65fps with most settings on ultra, with AIG at 95% and offline GA AI by Corsten at 40%. The quality of the image in the sim is amazing now compared to what I was doing before. But, I can get much better frames per second with this method than just native 4K. I will confess that I don’t fully understand how this works, though I am not complaining as to the results.

Please be aware though that VRAM must be considered if trying out this method, as it can fill up quite quickly in dense areas.
