Severe fps drop in 2D with GPS g1000, pms 750, glass cockpits etc?

I have one scenario, klax, where for instance, i can load up in a c310R, gps units are off, it might be about 68 FPS… then i goto the tablet turn on the pms gtn 750, that drops about 17 to 51 or so.

Another one, full load EGLC in JF Turbo arrow III, pms 750 nothing selected yet, 59 fps on runway, turn on map/terrain, 53 fps, less severe but the gtn was already on screen not fully disabled at first. (switch to radio nav mode, gps off 64 fps, so total there technically around 11 fps drop)

I tried another variation with another aircraft with the g1000 unit, saw similar type of lower performance with a unit like that active.

Its troubling because to hit 45 fps in pimax crystal in vr, it becomes tough, 38-43 in those situations where 2d 4k is around 51-58.

Maybe i just never noticed this before, but is this common?

4090 + 12900k

Every screen in the plane eats away your fps. The more complex or the more screens, the more fps loss.

Multiply it with a more detailed plane and a heavy scenery and 10-15 fps less can be expected

(everything according to my own experience)

I guess i never fully used these screens till now… that doesnt bode well for VR, unless using 72 hz and motion smoothing at 36 fps i guess. 45 is perceptively better in my eyes.

Scraping away trying to free up 5-7 fps haha

When I finally get my VR headset cranked up, I plan to use it in very simple plane, with an emphasis on looking out the windows, not in the cockpit. To me, VR is just not viable for use in a plane with complex instrumentation, unless you like flying with a mouse - which I hate.

Give me VR Augmented Reality and it will be a different story.

I dont know whats going on, suddenly i’m able to achieve 60 with both maps on, 4k 2d, the one change i did make was set my PC power options to “high performance” from balanced and i also slightly overclocked the gpu (4090), but, i didnt see a fps jump on the gpu portion, so maybe the high perf. I also changed a few nvidia settings, set things to clamp and prerendered frames to 2. Either way VR isnt hurt too much by activating the screens, getting 46-52 in heavy areas like NYC and EGLC I also set the FOV in openxr toolkit from quality to a custom one Inner ring 60, middle res 1/2, outer 80, outer res 1/8, turbo is actually off.

EDIT: at least for VR, i think setting my GPU core to +133 and Mem to 1033 gave around 2-3 fps more in VR. While the overall drop in 2D was only 5-6 with both maps on now somehow
