You did better than me. 2 flights 2 CTD.
feel your pain my friend, CDT at the beginning of next flight. one more chance to visit Nice or im off to forza
I think the object of the sim is to hop in the fastest jet ,scramble before a CTD or loss of connection to server ,then once airborne declare an emergency landing & try to land at the nearest airfield before a CTD occurs.Think of it as a mission ,sometimes impossible ,sometimes not ![]()
I wonder about the many different observations in this thread.
I should be in the fortunate situation that I can at least complete flights.
I use XBox S with a 10-year-old FullHD projector. The projector does not support HDR10. Maybe this limitations are the reasons why itās more stable for me.
I have been working in software development for over 30 years and therefore the problems described are rather the signal to me that the product has fundamental problems regardless of the platform. So that the community can find workarounds and hopefully MS and Asobe can better isolate the problems, I would like to tell you what it looks like for me - I carried out SU9 last Friday and have only flown C208B so far (due to I used it the last ~50 flights before SU9):
XBox S, FullHD projector, no HDR, keyboard, mouse, Turtlebeach V1F
SIM start:
-
Charging time like SU8, no sound at Asobe/Blackshrak logo
-
sometimes sound at Asobo and start without prompting to press button
-
sometimes the copyright is in large, sometimes in small fonts
-
after each restart, download in the background, which is unclear, not visible in the installation manager
-
Sometimes āNo Licenseā Note
SIM menu:
-
Mouse often not usable (much more common than with SU8)
-
Data settings incomplete (new with SU8 or SU9), rolling cache disabled, not changeable
-
World: with SU8 very slow after SIM start, very often longer waiting times when you click on or leave airport/sights, but so far no CDTs
SIM flights (about 10, all without autopilot and piloting assistance):
-
1x CDT just before landing
-
1x change to control options menu during the flight for no reason
-
1x CDT after landing and parking when turning off the battery
-
Loss of logbook entries due to CDT or after long duration flights (~ 1h) due to no flight end after battery turn off (seems to be reproduceable)
Maybe I feel better as many of you, because I have invested in a few add-ons so far. I was disappointed from the beginning how faulty this product is after 2 years. I would have that from one Game of the Year not expectedā¦
I got the XBox for Christmas, after a few years of MSFS break. All MSFS that I have flown since the end of the 80s were much more stable.
My considerations to invest in more powerful equipment and add-ons for FS2020 are on hold.
If fundamental stabilizing is not done here soon, the entire ecosystem will collapse.
Well, something positive at last today: I did just finally finish a flight from Paris to Graz in an Airbus 320 Neo WITHOUT any kind of problems. Everything went fine.
No freezing or black displays, no CTD, no auto-pilot issues. Even the AI ATC seemed to have a good day, except for the ending where the operator changed my descent levels like every 10 seconds
I guess he was a newbie and the nerves got the better of himā¦
Jesus. At this point you should just save up and buy a solid gaming rig. Because the harsh reality is that Asobo isnāt going to fix the Xbox issues anytime soon. Even for PC users, in 2 years even some things have never been fixed. What is suddenly going to make Xbox users be treated differently? Xbox is too weak to handle SU9 MSFS. Maybe it was powerful enough with SU5. But with each update, the sim DOES get more demanding as it gets better looking. The only solution is more powerful hardware, and unfortunately you canāt just update an Xbox like that.
Iāve already said a couple times in this thread that I migrated to PC, and that I am just trying to help XBox users. Even the sentence immediately before what you quoted said I bought DEM, coastline clearing, waterway, and road addons, things which you canāt buy for an XBox.
So, the advice to migrate to PC is not necessary, it has already been done. But I see you did take the opportunity to again start the narrative that XBox is too weak to run MSFS. I normally always respond to those, but I will pass this time because you already know my thoughts on that narrative.
Absolute nonsens. The issues which Xbox is facing right now have nothing to do with graphics. SU8 was fine and I canāt image those slightly better clouds (I donāt see them) couse such an impact on performance. Actually, once in the air the Sim runs fine on XSX in general. There are many, many other problems but graphics aināt one of them.
i agree ,SU8 ran as smooth as silk on the S , few stutters on X as camera changed mostly. thats why i miss it so much
Morning: finished a flight with no problems.
Evening: CTD in the world map
I must be lucky; Iāve had only one CTD on my Xbox Series X since Sim Update 9 was installed (that was from the world map). Overall, I find it a better, smoother experience than with SU8.
Well the ācanāt find authorization registrationā warning is gone now and Iāve had a couple of long local flights with no issues. No CTDās, just the turbulence issue. Still in āofflineā mode thoughā¦? So I donāt know what to make of it thus far. Seems ok to me other than what I just mentioned. ![]()
Forgot to mention, bit of scenery stuttering below 4000ft.
According the problems in this and other threads, MSFS has fundamental problems that are independent of the platform: if performance problems arise during logo inserts at start up, during interaction with the menus, if data forms are displayed incompletely, scroll bars are lost, log entries are lost, devices like mouse get lost during start-up, insert disc dialogs etc. then the system problems are inside the core and should not have a dependency to the platform. All of these examples should work fine on a 20 year old hardware too.
Therefore a platform change will not help, unless they are two completely separate products for the different platforms. But it doesnāt look like that.
If fundamental stabilizing at the core is not done here soon, this is a danger to the entire ecosystem of MSFS.
also Iām running msfs on my computer which is complete dog pupu compared to the series x and s and works totally fine so I canāt really understand why people is going down the hardware way again and again
Its clearly not the hardware - the X-Box was out before FS2020 so that would indicate that its the software not optimised for the hardware, not the other way round.
The X-Box version seems to have been pushed a little too far maybe? But thatās not what we currently have going on, too many random differences across both platforms, something is wrong at core level.
If the graphics code was pushing the GPU past its limit surely it would just stutter as the processor caught up, it should not CTD. Twiddling the world map should not overload a GPU - if it canāt handle a map it would have no chance of handling live traffic, live weather and all the actions of a large plane.
X-Box is a fixed entity, it should be totally stable and predictable, why so many variations of errors, all muddied by those that report perfect operation???
I am having issues too. Now when MSFS loads on the Xbox X, the minute I click on the World to create a flight plan, it freezes for a few seconds. The sim is crashing at times. Itās ridiculous that this is going on. Never had these problems before I updated to this Update 9 patch.
Just be patient: Iām not sure if it actually freezes as it might be also slow loading or something. Of cause it is not normal but Iāve read that they are working on a fix (even prior to WU9) so I hope that it will also deal with this issue.
Just powered up FS2020 and only managed getting as far as aircraft selection before a CTDā¦
Apologies for sticking my oar in as a PC user but a long time PS ownerā¦
Given some people are saying they are having no problems at all Iād say there are 3 variables that could be causing issues. Machine cooling, user internet speed and Microsoft server side issues. Given for most people SU8 worked just fine you can probably write off the first two leaving Microsoft servers as the likely cause. I donāt recall XBOX users suffering these issues during the beta, so again that would point to server related problems.
The servers have been flakey for weeks and are fundamental to FS2020 working, so they could easily be a major contributory factor. Given some people are reporting it being fine in the morning then CTDāing constantly in the afternoon data streaming is the only properly variable factor. The fact that some people are reporting no problems at all (on a closed architecture machine) would again point to data streaming problems. The same sort of frustrations often happen on the PC, where performance can change from hour to hour (particularly CPU load) with servers being the likely cause.
Reading these posts as an outsider it must be so frustrating. The thousands of different combinations of PC components is one thing, but when you have a fixed entity like the XBOX this variability of experience is just bizarre. It should be the same for everyone, full stop. I wonder if everyone having problems is here, or are these issues extrapolated across all XBOX users. Either way itās just really odd.
Really hope it gets sorted as soon as possible. Some more regular communication from Asobo as to what is going on wouldnāt go amiss in my opinion.
Maybe you should not neglect the topic of cooling / CPU / GPU load (XBOX). I am not an expert, but I noticed that after SU9 my Xbox now has to cool significantly more (audible on the ventilator). And thatās just when Iām standing at the airport. As far as I remember the fan never had to turn so high. It was always whisper quiet. But as I said, I canāt back that up with data. I only hear that the fan is now significantly louder.
