Running very similar spec. here but with more RAM and 2080Ti card. Mostly ultra settings and running an ultrawide (3440 x 1440) monitor. Normally 45-55fps in open country at low level, dropping to around 30fps in urban/busy airports. I tend to fly everywhere at around 100 feet AGL, not interested in high altitude stuff where frames rate improve (usually).
So at 4K you should be OK for useable FPS. If you can afford/configure it, do consider 32GB RAM. My system uses between 22-24GB while flying.
Yes, 3080 should be good, especially with a good CPU. Try getting 32GB of RAM and switch to Ryzen 5000.
I’d recommend a 5800X or 5900X (depending on what’s in your price range). Get a nice B550 or X570 board too, I’d recommend the B550-F Gaming or the B550 Gaming Edge Wifi
The 5900X is overkill. the 5600X should handle the sim just fine, 6 cores and 12 threads are the sweet spot right now. If you really want to be future proof you might go for the 5800X, but I doubt you’ll see any improvements over the 5600X.
But yes, I agree, it’s not worth going for Intel anymore. Ryzen 5000 performs equal or better, you don’t need to spend extra for a ‘K’ version, and you don’t need an expensive motherboard to overclock.
I think that will work well. I bet you’ll get 35-55 fps in high settings on 4k depending on plane and terrain. A good smooth 30 is fine for MSFS. I have a slightly higher end system and am getting in that range with ultra settings. Sometimes I drop a couple of the ultra settings down a bit, but sometimes just leave as is. It is hard to tell much difference between Ultra and High anyway in most areas to tell the truth. I’ve found that as long as I have 30 or more it looks just great.
5600X is great yeah, I just suggested the 5900X as a replacement for the 10900K, in case he needed many cores
I would definitely consider 32gb ram
Perhaps 3200 or 3600 …it will make a noticeable difference
It did with mine as I started out only with 16gb
Agreed 32Gb ram is a must. I regularly run with 23-25gb utilised on ultra settings
Thank you for your suggestions, I will definitely consider the 32GB, and at 3200 if there is a good special, if not later up, I can upgrade.
I’d recommend you consider getting above a 750W power supply- don’t see that listed in the build but thought I’d mention. 750 can be cutting it close with a 3080 and K series. I have a 1,000W and while performance is only marginally better my CTD have drastically reduced. I used to not be able to make it through a whole flight.
As others have said go with the 32GB RAM. Yes- you will be getting near top performance compared to other systems. It should be good timing too as hopefully some of the performance issues will be ironed out. You have a top end processor and a 3090 would only be marginally better. You can look into AMD too and they’re great, but MSFS favors single core speed at the moment.
I have a very similar setup and performance is still very hit or miss until they fix the engine. The airliners stutter heavily and drop frames all the time. I think that will be resolved though.
Follow up question. How can I move the sim to a new computer? I have good backups where I can clone the partitions, but there are sometimes where this method does not work, and we have to re-install everything manually. I was just wondering about plan B.
