Should a flight plan have cruise altitude put in by default

If I create a flight plan in ms flight planner or simbrief and I put in cruising altitude, shouldn’t the way points at cruise level have the flight level written in by the software? I get altitudes set only for departures and approaches.

The altitudes you see on departures and arrivals are required limitations known as an altitude restriction and are specified in the real world charts.
Breaking those will lead to an accident as they are often to avoid obstacles or other traffic.

I understand that. My question was when you generate a fl plan and enter your desired cruising altitude, does the software enter that into the flight plan? My plans dont seem to have the cruising altitude on any of the cruising waypoints.

No, it does not, only the restrictions.

cruising altitudes can change based on traffic volume, weather etc. I’ve been told to cruise lower than my filed altitude due to traffic volume IRL.
