Should I postpone installing WU16?

I’ve been seeing an awful lot of reports of problems after installing WU16.
Aircraft quit working, water masks degraded, flight plans not working.

Should I delay installing this until these problems have been resolved?

That‘s pretty much a decision to make yourself, isn‘t it? If you don‘t trust it or don‘t want its effects on the sim just don‘t install it. It‘s not forced on us after all in contrast to the sim updates.

You can try it oit and if you don‘t like it you can remove it.

I understand that. I’m looking for opinions from other forum members.
Thank you for yours.

I would leave it alone for now. ^^

If the water masks are much of a sim experience breaking deal for you I’d say don’t touch the new WU until it’s fixed, as others have reported even removing the new WU after installation doesn’t undo the missing water mask issue.
So I’ll be enjoying our pre WU16 water masks until they push a hotfix/patch, however long that may actually take to happen.

As the issues might relate to actual code changes you can install the world update part just fine.

If you see the update in market place you are already on the MSFS version containing the actual code  everything else is just another package of removable stuff.

The core update is mandatory and I assume you have already been updated to it unless you are offline.

The world update package is optional, but i believe the watermask issue is there even without installing those. Btw, as confirmed in the dev stream on 31st Jan, I think it’s only the Bahamas area, that is affected. I can see watermasks in other areas just fine for example in St Martin, St barts, virgin islands etc.

You can visit the Bahamas and other areas where you know there used to be detailed watermark and see if it’s still there’s after the mandatory update. If those are already gone, the content manager update shouldn’t cause anything else other than addon conflict which can happen anyway.

I’ve been enjoying flying around the Carribean since the WU was released. I was fortunate and had no issues with the download, there are lots of new POIs to visit, plus challenges, bush trips, etc. I see no reason to wait. Enjoy what’s there now, then go back & fly around the region post water-mask fix and enjoy it again. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you have a history of really slow downloads, then the ~ 12 GB WU might take a while, so plan to do something else while it does its thing…

No it isn’t there with just the basic core update

No, it works great for me. I don’t know why people are having issues… but the download was fine for me and everything works fine so far. I’ve flown a small portion of it, as well as part of the Dominican Republic/Haiti bush trip and it looks great! The water is fantastic.

I have found no problems with either the download speed or within the upgrade itself.

However the topic is a bit misleading as I wonder if the op’er realises that the only option not to do an update is to not use the sim at all. For updates are mandatory, so to continue to use the sim you have to do the core update except for MP content. I guess this is what he refers to.

On my setup St Barts have watermasks like you are showing with your video. Check if you have lots of ships baked into the water texture in west side of the island. On my setup, it’s only the Bahams that seems to be affected and doesn’t look like the trailer. Today I checked the shores of honululu and Bora bora and there too the masks are there just like before.

All this with the world update installed. And no third-party addons, so those aren’t adding anything either.

Id download it

Perhaps I am confused. When I referred to WU16, I thought I was talking strictly about the Caribbean World Update. Is that mandatory? Or am I confusing WU16 with the marketplace Caribbean update?

It’s not mandatory but with WU16 the base game was also updated so the issues you mentioned may be related to that update, not WU16 itself. WU16 only updates scenery in a small part of the planet. If you fly over Europe, it won’t affect your experience.

Thanks for the explanation. Marked as solution.

I guess if I want to fly (I haven’t in a week) then I need to install it and let the chips fall where they may. Kinda used to that, TBH.
