Should we be so impatient with MSFS 2020?

Everyone has been/is super excited about the whole of MSFS 2020 launch and just getting into it ASAP. Many of the users pre-ordered the game, many bought the Xbox Game Pass for PC(beta) just for MSFS2020. I have been going through the forums and youtube videos where many people have faced multiple issues. I read a forum saying the game has been launched early without troubleshooting numerous bugs. Some say they have blindly invested and now regret spending money on an “unfinished” game.

This is no rocket science but every gamer and/or simmer out there knows that the world of computers is unlimited- the PnC for a custom build PC, gaming rig, gaming laptop. So many manufacturers out there, all using different RAM’s, GPU’s, CPU’s so on and so forth.

I have not pre-ordered the game, but I bought the Game Pass. I have pre-ordered other games and faced a lot of issues myself. This experience can be very frustrating, sometimes even getting the thoughts for refund.

The gaming community is so huge, developers know for sure that someone will buy their products. But do they want to scam the gamers? I don’t think so! I believe that users and consumers should give a benefit of doubt to the developers, and instil trust in them to rectify any issues. People have always been OTT and expect everything to be perfectly fine.

The pandemic has caused a lot of havoc in everyone’s life and during such times Microsoft has worked hard and given something to look forward to and enjoy. It is a request that the community should understand and be patient instead of continuous complaints.

I would like to conclude by saying that pandemic or no pandemic the game should be fixed and which MS will do in due time. Thank you, Microsoft and Asobo for giving us something to indulge in and enjoy these gloomy, boredom filled days of the pandemic.

The “gamers” expecting plug and play. This is a complex simulator, not an Xbox build!
People often forget about human error, too. Always remember that maybe YOU are the problem!

Thanks for this small piece of common sense. :+1:

The more feedback Asobo/Microsoft get the better, but some of the complaints I see are truly surreal. A lot of people who clearly have no idea (or willfully ignore) where flight simulation platforms have come from to reach this point.

After years of spending hundreds on clearly and actually unfinished add-ons and products for X-Plane, the quality of this out of the box gives me faith that Asobo get it and the product will improve over time.

For now, let’s enjoy what it is (and remember we’re allowed to have more than one sim installed  )

Its just that people who complain should at least read up on what goes into creating such a complex simulator.

After many years of tinkering around with complex simulators, with so many different planes, key bindings and peripherals, I’ve learned that in half of the cases when I run into a problem, it’s simply because I’m doing something wrong. Being patient and seeking advice in forums are two pieces of advice that have worked for me in these circumstances.

Gamers are complaining because this is not a game, it’s a simulator… I’ve been flying with MSFS since FS95, and have bought each new MSFS that came out after that, and am amazed at what they have accomplished here. It’s not perfect, but nothing is, some things need polishing but for once we’ve got a really really good base product and I know Microsoft will polish its few rough edges.

hehehe… yes, so true. I am amazed already with only a few hours flying time so far. Yes there are some things I want done differently, or some thing is not quite how I thought it would be. But what I’ve seen so far has blown me away, and for sure will get better over time, just like all other versions in the past have (and that’s not just MSFS… who remembers Fly!)

And I go back further than you, my first copy of FS was branded subLogic :slightly_smiling_face:

First impressions for me are this is excellent. As a base flight sim this is light years ahead of the others.

Installation was straightforward, although 5hours to get there :joy:

Configuring the Yoke/throttle and button mapping user friendly.

Camera has taken some work but now have cockpit/external set to my liking. The cycle through views is actually very good once you get the hang of it.

Graphics are such a step up from XP11 and worldwide without add ons is unheard of! Hitting very smooth 40-50 FPS on high-end stock setting using 3700x, 2060s and 32gb.

Flew TBM930 on Vatsim last night using vPilot. FPS took hit but still flyable, aware this is known issue already. Navigraph simlink now working is great.

Flight modelling is quite sensitive in GA planes, auto pilot and avionics are good but many functions not quite there yet.

Disappointed no native support for Logitech panels as of yet. Affects realism and execution of ATC requests when on Vatsim.

All in all 48hours in, ive been hugely impressed with what we have just now. The best bit is this sim is only going to get much better too!

BS, human error in an automated process. This install has been the worst experience of 30 years gaming. I am sure when I am actually in the game it will be worth it!

I agree. this is a very complex game. While I think they should have pushed the released a few week, it is nowhere near unplayable. Bugs happen. The Steam Download was added somewhat last minute (downloading in the Microsoft Store doesn’t have so many problems) and the server are overloaded by all the new players. Give it a week or so then the servers will be better. Also FSX was also very bugged when it came out at the beginning just have patience

Honestly given the aforementioned pandemic I’d have paid to get this earlier even if it was in a less finished state. Just as the world was shutting down, travel plans cancelled, staying home with no work and no social life, Microsoft announced the release date for FS2020.

I’m actually enjoying this game, maybe im one of the silent majority?

Aside from an occasional performance issue (And most of those went away after a graphics driver update) I’ve had very little to complain about. I’d like VR Support and Shared cockpits in multiplayer but I’m really not sure what people were expecting?

It’s got a few annoying issues related to multiple monitors for those who use them and a few bugs related to Sim Connect but this is something that will be fixed quickly I’m sure.

I think a lot of the complaining is coming from people who set their expectations too high, or didn’t realise this is a sim before it’s a game. And to me, the core sim experience is 100% intact.

I’m enjoying it too. Flying around from Lukla last night was incredible and actually had some “pucker factor” … so far for me I have never seen such an immersive out of the box experience. The 3D landscapes are great, but populated with so many 3D buildings (regardless of the close up quality of the procedural generation) in the right locations along with the best weather I have seen in a desktop sim means that I can fly more closely to what I have done for real than ever before. I get that “As Real as it Gets” feeling :slightly_smiling_face:

Is it perfect? No. But neither have any other sim releases been that way, and in many cases took years to get sorted.

For support for Logitech panels check out the freeware option “Lorby AxisAndOhs” or the payware option spad.next. Both support the panels under MSFS2020.

Totally enjoying the sim. Not perfect by any stretch, but certainly groundbreaking and brilliant. I’m confident it’ll get much better.

Here’s where Microsoft does indeed deserve heated criticism:

  • Deceptive refund “work-around” for Steam
That business of breaking the installer into two parts: quick download shell / longer data download that “counts” as your playtime, thus preventing you from getting a refund if game doesn’t work on your system. Just terrible!

It’s a good post you have written man. I am also a GamePass member (mostly for Halo and other games so I can play in this pandemic which has given me unlimited free time from work), so the game is just a bonus for me.

I am with you on the patience thing. I did not mind the disastrous installation day, and nor do I mind the hourly crashes. I jump in to my Bonanza G36 and fly around my home town.

That is all I need right now. Yeah, very thankful to MS and studios for making this game. and including it in gamepass.

People either forgot or outright don’t know but when FSX came out it was horrible, it took months of patches and updates to get it to where it’s at today, some for X-plane, the game had years of builds upon builds to get to where X-plane 11 is at right now.

MSFS2020 will be no different, it’s already quite honestly glorious, I love almost everything about it and I can’t wait to see how the game will look a year from now with better performance, less bugs, better AI autogen, new liveries, 3rd party addons/planes etc etc

We’re on the road up for a better MSFS, I know it’s bumpy now, but like every other Flight sim, it’s gonna get better and the team here proved they can create something amazing so I can’t wait until we reach the destination.
