Out of curiosity, do you have AI (not Live) Traffic enabled? and have you tried with it disabled?
@LikelyMatt, you sure don’t want to be flying aircraft not CFFIKIC (Certified For Flight In Known Icing Conditions) in anything other than clear weather around that neck of the woods this time of year. If your app doesn’t crash, your plane probably will!
Some can handle it better than others, but the sim’s base icing model is too aggressive and covers too wide a range of weather conditions, meaning even a plane like Carenado’s 182T, which can handle some ice without losing control and killing everyone on board, is probably going to be in trouble.
Then again, “can handle it better than others” is not the same as Certified for Flight in Known Icing Conditions.
Yeah, I see your point.
Still, it’s quite fun living on the edge. At least in a sim.
Could you stop spamming around that external causes are causing the CTDs? I saw it in other threads already and it was 100% proven that a vanilla installation also crashes randomly to Desktop. Thank you.
Nearly the same for me. Never (repeat: NEVER) had a single CTD. I’ve done the first three bushtrips without a problem. I’ve done 1st leg of Alaska-bushtrip, no problem. After a few weeks yesterday I wanted to fly the 2nd leg: CTD during loading. I’ve tried the old bushtrips: same problem. I’ve tried the Alaska 2nd leg as a normal flight with the same aircraft: no problem. I’ve done the following:
- reinstalled the bushtrip (after emptying the community folder)
- cleared the rolling cash and made a new one
but nothing worked. Everything is running fine, only the bushtrips lead to a CTD. Any help anywhere? Or should I submit a ticket and wait a long long time…
Edit: Yes, I use LittleNavMap. This evening I’ll try without LNM, I’ll report.
Edit: Yes! It has something to do with LittleNavMap. Without LNM everything runs smooth; as soon as I connect LNM the CTD follows. No matter if I load LNM in advance or while flying a bushtrip leg.
I’ve disabled AI aircraft and ships, I load no flightplan --> CTD
In another post it says that there is a problem with SimConnect and the devs are already investigating.
But: If I run GMap (FSWidgets) - that also uses SimConnect - I’ve got no CTD. I’ll submit a ticket.
Ticket with all relevant information. Position, direction, altitude, DX and MSINFO-Reports. Best way to let them reproduce the problem.
@Follhorst, that’s not necessarily accurate.
If you empty out your Community folder (easiest with a program like MSFS add-ons linker, but you can cut and paste, or even straight up delete everything), don’t use or even uninstall all Store purchased addons, and reset any overclocks on your system, and still get CTDs, then let us know.
Now, MS/Asobo do need to work closer with their Store vendors so that a patch to the game doesn’t break an add-on (like what happened with Carenado), but they know that and have committed to fixing it.
But even having done all of that, if you’re trying to run the sim at settings that are inappropriate for your hardware, that too can cause unexplained CTDs. This may be the most difficult to track down, because there’s really no metrics to go by, but if you’re running an old i3 combined with a 9-series GPU, and trying to run Ultra everything- well, that might be a problem. You may actually get away with it for awhile, too, but it can bite you in the rear end if you let it.
I’m not saying the base, vanilla, from the factory version of FS2020 will never have CTDs, but if your copy is, you have to fix all of the above before you can blame the sim itself.
@Follhorst Thank-you for the insight…
You are 100% right but reading about cleaning the folders etc. in every single reply does not help. We are all old enough to understand this when its posted once.
You keep seeing the same information being posted because the same questions keep getting asked. It is apparent that you have spent some time reading posts. Sadly that is not the norm. I have users ask me a question that was asked three posts earlier. Take a look at the number of threads about CTD. We need two. One for “no error message” and one for “VCRUNTIME errors”. Yet here I am, answering questions on an “every single time” thread.
The vast majority only ever read a post that was in reply to their post or one where they are tagged.
I find it so much easier sometimes to just repeat rather than dig back to where I answered that question and link to it. Sorry if it bores you reading the same answers over and over and over…
Reversal. All working good now. I changed the ai traffic from offline to online live again. Flown several times now and not a single crash!! The ai offline is broken and bugged. Thanks for your concern and I appreciate it!
Another one off into the wild blue yonder.
You might be on to something here. I’m experiencing CTD like never before lately, which I attribute to using FSUIPC7 to fly with FSAirlines. Coincidentally, however, I’m now exclusively using AI traffic, whereas, for months I have used live traffic without issue. I’ve been attributing my CTDs to the FSA thing, but this is a variable I hadn’t considered. I’m going to try going back to live and I’ll report back. Thanks for this.
This was happening to me after the Windows update was installed today, I switched off my anti virus as it flag upped Bing not having an up to date certificate. No crashes so far. Worth a try if you a haven’t done so already. I have put the whole ‘Windows app’ file as an exclusion in my AV to see if that stops the crashes with AV enabled.
This has been anecdotally ‘proven’ at this point. AI Traffic has been the cause of a lot of user’s CTD. I also exclusively use Live Traffic and have never experienced an “unexplained” CTD.
Give it a shot and let us know the result.
Tried little navmap for the first time today
After 3 hours of CTD the developer told me that simconnect is broke since last update.
Please try to test with EMPTY mod folder and no software that uses sim connect in any way (moving maps for example )
If that works … it can be one of the thousands of mod combinations causing crashes
With me the sim is super stable and the CTD today are simconnect related ( had 2 ctd’s since day 1 of sim with 340 hours of flying )
Its completely useless to test sim stability with dozens of mods … that can ALL be responsible for CTD’s
Rule 5.
Any unusual performance or crash troubleshooting begins with, “Remove ALL contents from the community folder and disable ALL background apps, MSFS related or not AND do a cold reboot of the system. (Power OFF, Restart)”
I’m two hours into a flight I’ve been trying to complete for a week that usually crashes after 15 minutes. Looks like this was the key! Fingers crossed.
Crossing with you…
And if it works … add the add-ons slowly again. Would start with all scenery … then planes one by one … then mods for instruments ( like the g1000 mod for example )
To see what group causes the crashes. Time consuming to test though … most people do not have the patience
… and start flaming its asobo ( but often its mods )
