I experience this almost every time I exit the game. FS2020 suffers from this as well so I don’t expect them to fix this anytime soon. Or ever.

Same issue here on PC, Quit to Desktop just hangs.
Ensured community folder is empty, have to use Task Manager to end application.
Unsure why my engine sounds and quit have both stopped working since the weekend?

Or delete all aircraft in that mentioned folder. Hope that helps.

Deleted all ny StreamPackages and also toggled my Sound settings in MSFS 2024; at first wouldn’t let me switch to headphones, but after trying a few different settings in there, my engine sounds are back.
Double bonus - can also now Quit to Desktop.

After closing MSFS2024 (Steam ver), when I look at the task manager, the program has been running for over 8 minutes, with CPU usage at over 40% and 8GB of memory consumed.
When I try to restart it immediately, I get the error message “The program is already running.”

I have store version but also in my case when I will end a flight to quit to desktop it stays forever on the loading page.

In my case, the MSFS screen closes and disappears, and I’m returned to the desktop.
The program remains running only in Task Manager.
And I can’t restart MSFS unless I force quit it.
After about 8 minutes, it disappears from Task Manager.

I think different topics have gotten merged together here.
I made one about the menu button not working after specifically clicking “end flight”, not the sim hanging on exit.
It looks to me like the menu problem may have been fixed but I have not experienced the hanging process.
Mine still hangs at menu button press stage. Closed via taskmaster.
Probably 8 of 10 times it hangs.
Yesterday (after 2020 assets were transferred) the sim took about 5 minutes to ‘Exit To Desktop.’
My computer wasn’t hung (I could open other apps) so I just waited.
I have the same problem too. As a workaround you can leave with Alt+F4 then it close quickly, havn’t had any problem so far when quitting with Alt+F4

With MSFS2024 v1.2.7, I have to kill the task every time, and the next time I start it, the safe mode screen opens, which is very annoying.

Haven’t had this problem for a while now. It disappeared when I fixed a onedrive syncing issue. Might be unrelated though. In any case, I did not see the problem again.
Unfortunately, we are unable to reproduce this issue on the latest build.

What you were doing right before you tried closing out of the sim: I wanted to load a second flight after landing in LKPR and changed my departure airport to EPKK. The flight did not load so I canceled an went back to the main menu. I then varified in the Option menue that my hardware setting I changed during the first flight were saved. After this I wanted to leave the sim but Exit to desktop did not work.

Same here, clicking “Quit To Desktop” on the main screen and then confirming on the subsequent “Are you sure you want to leave Flight Simulator 2024” pop-up leaves the sim hanging while just playing the background music with CPU usage, memory usage, I/O reads/writes (all in Process Lasso and Resource Monitor) and Rx/Tx data (in GlassWire) are at minimal values with basically no activity from the sim.
