Sim no longer launches

This is the first time I have experienced this issue and have been unable to resolve it.
When I launch the sim It goes to a black screen with the data loading spinny thing at the bottom right just like normal. the indicator disappears and the screen remains black.
Task manager takes a long time before it declares it not responding but it eventually gets there.
It will not progress past the black screen.
I have tried everything possible. Nothing has changed on the machine since the last time I ran it. Very strange.

Start by removing ALL content from your community folder. Then attempt start up and report back.

Do NOT attempt a reinstallation of anything at this point.

It makes finding the cause impossible.

I am still troubleshooting it .
Community folder is Empty at the moment.

I’m having this same issue right now. It was working earlier, but suddenly it’s not. No idea why.

I got it fixed. A simple restart of the PC did nothing. I had to shut it down via the power button. Thats what worked for me.

And as Sluff pointed out, have you done a full power off restart of your system?

I am so far past that its crazy.
even with Microsoft in my ear I have only made the issue worse (if thats possible)
I made every attempt to correct the issue (and yes pulling the plug was one such attempt) but to no avail.
I then made a horrible mistake and uninstalled the sim. (NOTE: Don’t do this )
I can now not download the sim from the Store. I get a failure code right out of the gate.
Code 0x80073CF9
Well apparently This is common and EVERYONE has a “Solution” Of course none of those solutions work.
So back online with Microsoft Support for assistance and jump through more hoops with no success. This included a reinstall of the OS (inplace upgrade) a fresh install is out of the question at this point.
Created a fresh user on the system with ADMIN rights and local user only. Download started at least but failed very quickly then nothing.
At this point I have a spot in the Store that says YOU OWN THIS but I have nothing to prove that.

This has been and still is a nightmare scenario

Everyone needs to read this!

PS: I hope that was before you started this thread and my initial response.

well lets see. after many hours of troubleshooting and time online with MICROSOFT tech support we were unable to resolve the issue. So honestly your initial response was less than helpful.

It is quite obvious now that there is more going on here than just a hung application. The only recourse left was to uninstall the app and see what else could be done.

so either way I could sit and look at a blank black screen until it eventually closes on its own or I can troubleshoot the issue from the start. Now I am at the start and I am not the only one by the look of it and MSFS is not the only application that has this issue.

I am now looking at a Microsoft Store issue and the way it stores the data on your PC. It is messy and even a clean uninstall of an app leaves a huge trail behind.

The WindowsApps folder infrastructure and MS Store definitely have some issues.

Glad to hear you now have it well in hand. Would have been nice if all that was in the initial post and maybe could have been more helpful.

Well here is where it Ended up.
After Exhausting every possible avenue to get the application running It was Uninstalled.
Reinstalling was impossible due to a Windows Store issue, Something on my PC was Corrupted.
After Many hours of trying anything and everything through Microsoft Support, Zendesk Support and some poor girl from accounts (not sure how I ended up with her) it was determined that a full reset of the windows installation was required. This was carried out painlessly this evening and the Sim is no back up and running (well actually it is still loading everything the content manager).
I will have some work to do to get all of my applications and games back up and running but this was the number 1 issue. I expect better stability now as well.
Suffice it to say that none of this should have been necessary. Microsofts way of managing the data for teh Microsoft Store leaves a little (a lot actually) to be desired. There should have been a method to resolve the corrupted store data and get things back up. It would have saved hours of troubleshooting.
Good luck Stay Safe
