Sim not loading after WU5 release

Sim worked just fine yesterday.

MS Store updated +1GB, but when launching the game I get to the screen where a castle of some sort shows up, then CTD.
No error message, no nothing… Disabled antivirus/firewall, ran as admin, I’ve done the whole community folder wipe clean, driver update, windows update routine, even tried the never failing slam my desk and scream at the screen.

Anyone else?

edit: too be clear, I’ve only downloaded the MS Store update, never reached the point of the 5GB ingame update

Same prob here. But I don’t get a CTD, the Sim just doesn’t load after the update :frowning:

Mine is stuck on 1/37 Decompressing… ‘pc-fs-base-bigfiles-0.1.146.fspatch.003’ update: just in locked triple dot … loop.
Tried various things - any ideas?

Just stuck on loading here. Useless FS! I am fed up with having to empty the community folder for every update

Why can’t we choose whether we update or not?- I would never update if I didn’t have to - my system was stable and the game working well…we must have some consumer rights to buy something ‘as is’ and not have it constantly f@£d with !!

Overall I’m very satisfied with this game, limited as it is compared to reallife still loads of fun. Unfortunately too much real-life simulation right now, SNAG is never welcome

I restarted my pc twice and got the sim to start. But now it freezes while loading a flight… never had issues before with any of the updates since launch. Any ideas what I could look into?

I’ll appretiate any (free) improvement with regards to performance, visuals and content most of the time, given it actually makes the game start of course…

For those having issues after the WU.

Go to the sim options and click repair, let it do its thing and try starting it again.

I was having such problems after the update, also the content manager would freeze for me.

Doing this solved it for me.

Renaming it takes a couple of seconds. Or use an addon linker to temporarily unlink them all with a single button press.

Exactly whats happening to me, unless a bunch us are having this issue I’m afraid a reinstall might be our only hope.

I’m not sure if some addons are in conflic with core files, uninstalled both REX weather Force and REX Real Global Airport Textures with no improvement.

This sim is no way near ready for prime time, it looks as though it still has a year or 2 of development left. I’m just glad I don’t have to wait that long so I’ll suffer through the teething problems. I’ve had to re install windows and then the sim because it completely messed up not only the sim, but locked out the installation folder making it possible to make any type of edits. I mean I couldn’t even uninstall

Same here tried everything reported to zendesk, they came back with standard answer, even totally reinstalled pc/windows 10 still not working. I have triedinstall on another desktop same problem. I already told zendesk the problem is not with me, but i think it will take time for them to understand and take proper action.

Did you find a solution? mine is still not installing, even after a clean win 10 install. ■■■■■■ me off a bit actually

First, ensure you have the US English Language Pack installed for Apps & Websites. If you install MSFS without this pack, the install will hang until a message will display that this pack is required.

Thx for your reply, i know the englisch pack is required, tried to install msfs on clean installed and updated win 10 desktop on which msfs was running from start in august 2020. It installs from the store ok, but at first run it CTD’s after first scenery screen (with castle) so it never goes to download content. Tried on a second desktop and exactly the same happenend, i am quite sure now the problem is not on my side. But zendesk is replying with the standard solutions, they even asked to clear com folder which is stupid when you could not install content in the first place. I liked msfs very much and i am disapointed that it won’t install anymore.

English (United States)

ok thats helpfull

Settings, Apps and Reset Flight Simulator 2020 did the job for me. Now all I need to do is to wait for about 90GB of download to once again hit the skies… Not the prettiest solution, but I guess it beats a complete reinstall of both Windows and the sim.

Be aware, a reset removes folders with content, prior to reset I moved the content of my community-folder into a different folder still within the “packages” folder. Now it’s gone, guess I’ve learned my lesson and hopefully you are smarter than me

edit: I’ll hold the “solution” until I actually see the sim loading properly, but at least I’m able to download and hopefully update the thing. Will keep you posted

Final edit: It worked, reset via windows settings and apps did the trick. Sim is up and running, hopefully this works for others too
