Hi, I am having an issue where the simulator is not starting at all, I have tried restarting my computer and aftret more than 10 minutes waiting after I click start game nothing happens, I own the standard edition in the microsoft store.
Oh dear that really is a shame. I click on the icon and it’s all ready for take off in a cuppla minutes.
Yeah, I got a notification this time when I tried to start and it says that This operation rturned because the timeout period expired
Has the sim ever worked on your PC? or is it the first time you’ve tried it on that PC?
It has always worked.
The “This operation returned because the timeout period expired” error is usually caused by one of two things.
- No internet connection, or a proxy is interfering with the program’s ability to connect to the internet.
- Very high background CPU and/or disk usage when loading the program.
Cpu usage is not high at the moment, I disabled my VPN but still nothing.
With the VPN disconnected, give the PC a reboot and try to launch the sim again.
If it still doesn’t work, perform a clean boot by following the steps here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows and try to launch the sim again.
I tried it, still same problem sadly.
Do you only get the error with MSFS2020? does it happen when opening any other programs?
It only happens with msfs, I saw that I am now getting another message after starting it, it says: Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device. The app is Microsoft Store Pacakge Depeny Installer. And after that I get a very quick notification that says: Installing depencies. But nothing happens after that.
Try running the sim as an administrator, it may be wanting to change/update something it currently doesn’t have permission to access.
When I click run as administrator nothing happens, so I do not get the prompt to run as administrator.
But I do get the microsoft depency notification again’
Ok I tried again now I get a notification saying: this app cant open, check the windows store for more information.
Interesting. Try the steps listed here:https://www.intowindows.com/fix-this-app-cant-open-check-windows-store-for-more-info-error-in-windows-10/#:~:text=Check%20the%20Windows%20Store%20for%20more%20info,-Method%201%20of&text=Step%201%3A%20When%20you%20get,display%20Launch%20and%20Reinstall%20buttons.
I wonder if some files have been corrupted.
Whyn trying to install the app again I get the error: fast cache data not found.
That’s very odd. How old is your hard drive?
At this point you may get more luck by performing a system restore back to when it was working correctly.
Im using an nvme SSD, it only stopped working when the new update came out.
Try a system restore back to before the update was installed, and if it still doesn’t work, restore back to before the sim was first installed.
