The team has requested additional survey data from the community. In our other forum survey, we asked you to rate Stability in general, but now we would like more specific information about the prevalence of crashes to desktop (CTDs) and Low Memory/Avionics issues in build 1.7.28.0. Please vote in the surveys below for your platform. Please note we have also separated Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in these surveys for increased granularity.

On a high end PC with ample memory, I donāt get any out of memory conditions, and luckily no CTDs.
However, since updating to 5.1 I have had a lot of odd avionics issues that simply didnāt happen before. Example, Iāve been flying the default A330-300 a lot, and almost every flight since 5.1 / 1.7.28.0, there is always at least 1 thing that ends up being strange:
FMA will blank out and sometimes recover
AP will disengage and not re-engage
MCDU screen will flicker like it wants to crash and certain pages (FPLN) will become unusable)
Fuel on Board reported in the plane, will be different than loaded via Simbrief, via A330 tablet (not the MSFS EFB, and yes Iāve checked units).
Sorry that is very anecdotal feedback, impossible to reproduce, and all manageable - but these odd things were not happening before. Well⦠to clarify, there were AP issues with the IniBuilds default Airbuses, but during SU4 and SU5 most of the issues I was having seem to have been fixed, so this feels like a partial regression, except the oddities are different. Iāve also cleared WASM, caches, etc. Will try to report more specifics if they happen.
Now that I think about it, I also had odd avionics issues in the DA62, when I was really pushing settings over Tokyo, things went sideways while landing. Sorry not much tangible info to give, other than āodd thingsā happening.
Not on the beta, but Iām having these in the retail release across a wide variety of models since the launch of 5.0. At first, I thought it was on the L-1011, but that was a coincidence in time. And so it persists into 5.1? Cheers!
With 5.1 I have CTDs when I try to change via TaskManger affinity mask settings to exclude cores O and 1 (I have an old and not supported processor i7-5930K in excluding those cores helps me with my FPS and MainThred issues) or when switch Off/On PG or (once or twice only happened) try to change some Graphic settings
PS5/PSVR - nothing has really changed. First time you select a plane in loads in chunks, you can see the plane being ābuiltā. The screen is blown out as if someone turned up the brightness all the way. Cockpits in VR are a still nightmare to interact with. Avionics in flatscreen are sluggish. Stutters are unpredictable but mostly at landing.
All of this is as of this morning as I deleted the beta earlier today. The shine of having this on ps5 and psvr2 has worn off.
PC, Steam - pressing the button assigned to setting MSL pressure does not provide with the local pressure, it just drops down (to the end of altitude band on PFD I think) - this is on B-737 MAX 8 Asobo and on IniBuilds A320/321N family, did not test other planes.
On Xbox series X very little has changed with the Beta for 5.1
I will say upon initially loading in during free flight the performance is better and thereās not much stuttering or memory loss warnings even in complex airliners like the PMDG 737 at 3rd part handcrafted airports.
I have all traffic, airport staff/vehicles, fauna, etc turned off and Iāve already reset my rolling cache and have it set to around 64gb.
One thing thatās still an issue is the second you look away from anything it becomes a blurry blob and it has to load again when you turn the camera back to it. Iām assuming this is due to some LOD changes which make it much more aggressive.
Iām able to do one flight every session but shortly after landing once I start to taxi to the gates the game goes back to how it was in SU5.0 it can stutter but in my case the textures half load and scenery looks terrible at times. Every time without fail I get the āmemory lossā warning and all my avionics shut off rendering my controls useless. Unfortunately 5.1 is like a 4/10 when it comes to improvements.
My answr is āneverā for both questions on XBoxX but it wasnāt that long ago that I would have answered ārarelyā because I have had a CTD and Iāve had multiple ālow bandwidthā messgaes - maybe thats not the same though - while in the flight planner map of all places.
Using the PMDG 737, everything went smoothly until I inputted my flight plan into the EFB, just to send to atc. Once all that was inputted, the game started bugging out, textures were lost and then it populated the avionics error. Something is going on when you start to mess with the EFBz
Frequent CTD happen when a flight is finished, and want to go back to the menu to start another one.
Low memory/avionics happen almost every flight when a flightplan is send to ATC/Avionics. Especially on the Boeing 747, 787 or larger airbuses (A310 & A330). Mainly tested handcrafted airports, for example EHAM and EGLL.
Xbox series X. I voted frequently for all questions, as itās difficult to choose because it depends which aircraft I fly. PMDG aircraft are generally ok, but not immune to the low memory warnings, as I have had a few low memory warnings now. If I use the inibuilds A350 or A340, Iām virtually guaranteed to get the low memory warnings before Iāve even got into the cockpit. Whilst not filing a flight plan with ATC does help with these issues, I have still had them frequently even without ATC or EFB use. Performance in general is definitely not up to SU4 levels as Iām getting more stutters on the ground and when landing, very much like SU3 was, but not quite as severe. Feels a bit of a mess at the moment to be honest, I hope the Devs manage to improve things.
First of all: I have no issues with resources. FS is using less than 50% of available resources.
CDT relates solely to photogrammetry; when enabled, it is present at certain airports such as EHAM, EDDF and EGLL.
As far as I can tell, CDT is also linked to the handcrafted airports included in FS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition.
To reproduce CDT, you must be at a handcrafted airport.
You can recognise a handcrafted airport on the World Map by the yellow circle with a black star in the centre.
At EDDF (which, for me, is a handcrafted airport), simply zooming in is enough to trigger CDT.
Another way to reproduce CDT is to select EDDF as both departure and arrival, go to Settings > Online > Photogrammetry and enable it. CDT will appear at that stage.
Sometimes, CDT will appear immediately after pressing Start Fly.
Another way is to select LFPG as the departure point with photogrammetry enabled (there will be no CDT), start a flight and fly towards EDDF. After a while, near the border with Germany, it will crash.
To clarify that there is no issue with resources, I am getting around 29ā30 FPS at LFPG.
I have an AMD system, Windows 25H2 and an Xbox controller.
I have Disabled all 3D Photmmetric Cities Streamed Packages, and CDT were gone with Photogrammetry enabled.
EDIT: I think the Photogammetry issue is related to changes made in Bespoke Airports
This is a difficult one to vote on. Theoretically, with an Xbox series X I should be able to turn all graphics settings to their highest allowed values, enable photogrammetry and have real world live traffic and be able to load in to any handcrafted airport that is included with the sim with, as a minimum, any of the aircraft included with the sim and not get a CTD. And you should also of course very much be able to use a full IFR flight plan in the EFB with ATC use as well and not get a CTD. But if I do all of the above at say Heathrow in say the A20N, I will get a CTD every single time and if I donāt, the performance will be unusably bad. Take the A350 and you wonāt even get as far as standing beside the aircraft
But conversely, if I turn everything off and load in at a medium sized third party airport in a third party aircraft (PMDG 737 or 777) and donāt use the EFB or ATC, then 99% of the time it will be completely fine aside from being very much less smooth than it was in SU4
So if I can make it CTD every single time without using any 3rd party content, then technically I should vote that I do get a CTD every single time because we shouldnāt have to make compromises with the settings available to us as these already come with compromises compared to what you can have on a PC?
Xbox Series X
It is a difficult one.
If I fly one of my well optimised aircraft with no live traffic, with ATC off, PG off and donāt use the EFB I will have a trouble free flight - not quite as smooth as SU4 though.
But - if I load up an aircraft that hasnāt been optimised I get frequent Low Memory warnings⦠I get a CTD every now and again if Iām rash enough to use the EFB to load a long flight plan and send to ATC and avionics.
Perhaps the devs have separated the Xbox s and X because they think/hope that most of the issues happen to series s users? Who knows?
But the fact remains that there are still some serious issues that need to be satisfactorily fixed.
As long as they make sure they get it right and donāt just push out another half baked released I can live with that - just wish I had a bit more faith. Extra surveys makes me think they arenāt seeing what weāre seeing. Maybe they need to test how we test instead of loading a bush plane onto a grass strip into the middle of nowhere and saying that it works fine
Iām having this issue too. What I do to avoid this problem is load the plan for EFB when Iām flying. looks like the time you send it on the ground, much thing is beeing processed and the memory go low and all the sort of things happen.
Iāve said it a few times and going to say it again just to try to grab dev attention - SU4 was different to every other SU in that it used single threading for aircraft systems. SU4 was great, all others had rotten performance. That canāt be a coincidence
The most frustrating part is that we had to wait over 12 months after release to get a usable sim when SU4 came out. I even bought quite a lot of aircraft and airports once it was stable, now most of them are unusable. It feels like we are almost back to square one again.
