On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being most stable), how do you rate the Stability of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in this build in Virtual Reality mode?
I’m a little underwhelmed by the release notes for the new Beta for 5.1 (…30)
But if they actually get the stability and other glaring issues fixed, great.
I just fired it up on PC after downloading. All appears at least no worse. Before I comment any further, I will do a system shutdown and then a several hour flight tomorrow.
AI Traffic - During the full duration from takeoff to landing only 1 AI aircraft and that was as i was on final and it was sitting at LFMN (Activated AI traffic name plates for the sole purpose of seeing that variation of ai traffic)
After landing spam restart - Slow loading but no errors
- Returned back to main menu and loaded into a PC-12 First time for me personally that I have received the memory issue in this specific aircraft.
Tried starting a flight from aerosoft eddl in the pmdg 738 2 times and got hit with low memory ans avionics message over and over. moved to Inibuild Leib and had zero issues. EDDL worked fine last build. So regression in some parts progression in others is what Ive seen so far in this build on series X
Still low memory messages (big Planes like 737 Max 8) or constantly rebooting avionics (e.g. in the cessna citation longitude - a complete reboot/re-aligning spectaculum… ). So no progress for me. Sorry… we are not there yet.
(No addons, only MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition)
Can we please get a fix for the root cause, and not minor tweeks stubling in the dark? The avionics processes (all of them !! From PFD to Autothrust… from autopilot to ILS receiver) must be prioritized before any visual tree or cloud stuff. Offline or constantly rebooting/realigning avionics make the game unplayable… A missing cloud or tree does not.
I saw no difference with the first 5.1 beta build.
But this new build is the first one that gives me stutters and significantly more pop-ins.,
I am on PC, I have 64GB RAM and 24 GB VRAM - So I never ran into the recent memory issue and stability problem that seems to haunt others, especialy on console.
I always had the feeling, that I was lucky as I have enough memory so the sim can cache more data without issues.
Thisa latest build seems to be trying to improve memory usage and stability, by reducing or limiting the data being cached. THis might help with the issue they are targeting.
But it is absolutely innacceotable that it introduces stuttersan pop-ins for those that have no issue.
This has to either be adjusted automatically by reading the available memory or - better - be an otpion the user can adjust like the terrain pre-caching.
For me, the current build is no joy and it looks like things are going the wrong direction for a final release.
Solve the issues for those affected, but please do it without introducing regressions for those not affected.
I made my first full flight after the Beta update, after the Barcelona - Rome a320 flight I switched to a free-view camera, after which I received a warning that the memory was full, after which the game crashed)
Had a fly about with some landings here there and everywhere.
Stutter free
Memory issue free
Nominal AI traffic
Nominal landing & take off
Avionics issues - Let me explain, Avionics resetting themselves has changed i think whilst I was flying i had 3 centre screen ‘resets’ black screen and instantly back to normal, much better than what we have been seeing.
Few more tweaks and it might be there but much much better than the current 5.0
I was having small stutters at cruise on the last build and noticed it was anytime I had selected another window. After this update, on my first taxi out, I had freezes not stutters. These continued until I was over 20,000 feet. Since the release of SU5, I have lowered all my graphics setting and I am still getting worse performance.
Quick add on. The best part of this is the freezes are happening with less than 50% GPU utilization and CPU at less the 70%. Not a hardware issue.
After a flight from EGLL to PANC (Block Time +/- 9 hrs) things were pretty decent for me. I have no complaints related to the major issues this beta is trying to address. PC/ MS Store/ 7900xt/9800x3d/32g/ 1440p
Testflight on PS5 with Cessna Citation Longitude with current beta - freshly booted msfs:
Could load in once… at least… this is something…
ISSUE: Constantly rebooting displays even while still on the ground during pre-flight setup
ISSUE: In flight repeatedly disconnecting Autothrust, rebooting displays, abscent information about height/speed. ILS receiver loses track of a already followed glipeslope due to internal avionics resets.
In sum: Still extremely dysfunctional memory management. NOT FLYABLE.
Testflight on PS5 with DA-40 TDI without glass cockpit with current beta - freshly booted msfs:
could load in…
Issue: LED-based engine status indicator repeatedly resetting. Still very unstable memory management und thus resetting avionics… even small ones like that engine-o-meter…
PC user. 5070ti 16Gb gpu. AMD 32GB Cpu. 2D only. 34in curved 2k screen plus two 24in side screens. 1Gb internet. 2x FG. All settings maxed to ultra or high. Fly multiple times every day. Past week mainly the longitude playing the JetCard addon.
Smooth flights, great landings, perfect visuals, stunning scenery, breathtaking clouds. No avionics issues, no stutters, Cannot fault the sim.
Yesterday (PMDG 737-800) LEPA-LSGG in the approach at FL160 it used 16+ out of 20 GB of VRAM with even some sound crackles and many stutters. At landing you could see exit/entry signs moving to the place where they belong instead of in the middle of the taxi way. Did a reboot and the return leg was pretty good, at LEPA no such problems. Both sceneries are pretty equal on the VRAM normally and the PMDG is by far the best VRAM wise.
Today LEPA-EHAM with the Fenix A321 and near the Dutch border it already started with many stutters and the crackling sounds would put you to sleep if you would count them. Also the ground effect was totally out of wack. The flare looked like a drunken goose. Used rwy 27 with 270 @ 12 but still needed some major inputs to keep the nose pointing to the centerline.
SU 3 and before was way better than what we have right now. I don’t know what Asobo is doing but I highly doubt that this is the same update as the SU5 beta version. Biggest problem is that it happends on different places. Some places look really good but other are just horror to watch and terrible on the VRAM.
I finally want to have a stable sim again without all this drama all the time.
Did a 2 hour flight in the 737 max from cancun to Hartsfield jackson. Smooth from taxiing at cancun to parking at Hartsfield though it was nighttime throughout flight.
Everything set to medium, live traffic. PG off. No interaction with efb, used my own tablet for flight planning and reference. Interaction with ATC throughout.
Bravoairspace liveries enabled and real ground crew vehicles.
