Sim update 5 - This game kills my RTX3090!

Rtx 3090. Never had any problems related to gpu before (flight sim, assetto corsa, Blender cycles 24/7 renders on gpu)

Since sim update 5 i have this weird graphics problem. It happends after aprox 5 minutes in to flight. Always on the same part of the screen these square blocks appear with pixels sort of being stuck. I took a screenshot from it but it’s hard to capture since it flickers alot. Mainly in the middle of the screen where the prop is, and in the right of the screen (less visible in screenshot unfortunately)

This reminds me of the gpu starting to break down. however it only happens in msfs. And happend from the first flight since update 5. So definately is related to this update.

Ingame settings are everything ultra except motion blur is off. Gpu doesn’t get to hot. Cpu neither. Gpu isn’t overclocked. I have no custom User.cfg settings.

Nvidia control panel is set to default settings. Only g-sync is off. (too much flickering)

This has my slightly worried using the sim at this moment.

Here’s the screenshot: (the blocks on the ride are roughly the same size as the one near the prop, but it is hardly visible in this screenshot)

EDIT: more screenshots here:

Also notice the textures missing . . . .

What a ■■■■■■■ i n g mess unbelievable

I’m getting the same issue showing at the top over the screen .most noticeable against the sky and clouds…Also finding that the lights on the H135 airbus helicopter very laggy.I quit the flight.Exited MSFS gave it a few mins. Then fired it back up.At this time that problem seems to cleared it’s self off.Try that maybe.Know this update will be glitchy like all the rest.Expect a hot fix soonish…

Yes, after a restart it dissapears. But once again after a few minutes it happens again. So far every flight i have done it appeared after a few minutes.

I’m benchmarking some other games i have on my pc right now to make sure it’s flight sim only related.

If it is, this is definately not good. I’m to worried now it damages my gpu because i haven’t seen this in any other game ever.

happens for me too when i put the render scale over 100%

ah, render scale might be @ 120 now i think about it. Will try again later today with 100%

I’m rendering at 125.Hasn’t come back yet.If it does I’ll try at 100…

I have issues as well, game freezes in the middle for about a good 10 to 20 seconds and continues. Sometimes it fully freezes and locks during loading screens or post training sessions etc at random. The task manager shows MSFS - 1.18.13.0 is not responding.

Tried the following:

  1. Fully updated Windows, graphics drivers - reverted back to previous Nvidia stable release even to test
  2. Disabled FSUIPC on start up (though latest is installed)
  3. Renamed Community folder so that it doesnt take up any other addons
  4. Deleted rolling cache
  5. AV exclusions (although it wasn’t needed for any update since last August 2020)
  6. Ran as administrator
  7. Rebooted after every change
  8. Clean installation of Nvidia drivers for 2070TI with default settings

Seems like after this update I started to get these constant lockups and freezes, including intermittent freezes and complete game freeze with no crash tho although once it locks up in loading screen or post game loading screens etc it needs to be force closed.

Any help would be highly appreciated to further troubleshoot.

I also see these weird graphical glitches in the form of blocks and squares.

I noticed the squares and blocks whilst taxiing and by the end of the flight, the blocks were very visible and any surfaces reflecting light were flickering like mad. I had to back out of the game cos it was going crazy.

Where are you flying when the freeze occures? How is the weather there? I noticed my weather changed quite a bit after every freeze and the plane (FBW A322NX) changed altitude a bit. Switched to a weather preset and now I didn’t have a freeze for 20-25 mins and counting since I’m midflight.

I can confirm. This only happens when setting resolution scale above 100%.

Thanks asobo. Now it feels like i’m flying without glasses because res scale @ 100% is blurry as ■■■■ on 1440p… unbelievable

same here
task manager show GPU drop to 1% during freeze
it can happen in flight, on ground, on menu…
never got this before.
except this everything is ok.
I use weather preset, not live.

I’m rendering at 115% on a 2060 Super with an i9-9900k. No problems at all so far.

Yeah but i am on 2K, what resolution do u use?

These issues seem indicative of an unstable overclock. The improved resource handling from SU5 may bring out these sort of problems where one would otherwise not see them. Are you running at stock clocks? Did you ever do a burn in test?

This happened on numerous occasions, weather was calm. Moreover it happened as I was trying out the take off training for Airliners (I’m experienced, just trying out the new training menus for fun) - take off on Airliner - calm day for training it occurred. Menu freezes a lot, even while quitting it freezes.

Bingo. @omarliew , either your GPU overclock isn’t stable, or some part of your GPU is/may be overheating. GPU-Z can read the temperatures of your GPU; likewise, HWINFO64 if you want information overload

Really sad to see so many issues with the 3090s
But those cards do use a lot of power. I would keep an eye on your memory Tjunction temps, you can do so using HWINFO

I appreciate the help everyone, but as stated in my original post’ my gpu is not oc’d and temps are perfectly fine.

I’m also aware of software for monitoring temps/voltages and whatever. As you can clearly see in the screenshots.

This only happens when using a higher then 100% res scale. Never happend before su5. Doesnt happen in any other game or app.

Definately something wrong with the game itself.

If you don’t have temperature issues, then your RTX3090 can’t be killed either, right? Always this dramatising. If all drivers are up to date, report it to Asobo.

There’s more things then heat that can kill a gpu.

But the reason i titled it like this is because these artifacts that you see on screen are often signs of a bad gpu. I’ve had this in the past woth a gtx680. Started like this, getting worse over time. Then the colored lines appeared and eventually killed it. Never had any heat issues with that gpu either.

Now i know it’s not killing my gpy. But certaintly got me worried. No game should have this kind of behaviour.

But ofcourse… No heat issues so i’m just whining. It’s only a 2000€ gpu that’s wildly available around the planet.
