Sim Update 7 Live Weather regression - a broken mess

Confirm! Again as it was yesterday! No weather injection except for some fog anywhere in the world…No guys, serious, it’s not funny…I really hope that it is some repair works that just pauses servers somehow in the middle of the night idk

I just took off from YPKU, skies were totally clear, I’m guessing it was generating weather from the METAR which was incorrect. Then about 15 NM from the airport the live weather suddenly generated this:

As you can see not clear skies at all. Pretty poor level of integration from my point of view.
I really think that METAR’s should only be used to generate visibility. Leave clouds, winds, precipitation to the live weather system. It may not be perfect but at least it doesn’t spawn clouds and thunderstorms from nowhere.

Read my post again. I never said METAR is future or predictive. I said if your point of view is two days in the past, yesterday’s or today’s METAR is “future” METAR and any other METAR from that point up to the last METAR that has been published today.

But at this point I will accept that there are two groups of wanting it two different ways and will request the option to have both types of injecting weather to the simulator. The realistic way and the “live” way as long as both together isn’t possible.

Alright, so.. what should we get from all of this?
I thought that the new weather system will be a blend of as close to IRL as possible with METAR reports and Meteoblue predictive weather.
Right now it looks like METARs are much more prioritized than we all thought they’d be. I’ve read somewhere that they basically stripped the sim of upper-level clouds and the sim now looks boring because of that - only cumuliform and stratiform lower-level clouds.
We also have the MSL/AGL bug which means that clouds are often rising beneath the surface and it looks weird.

If they went with Meteoblue only, there wouldn’t be low IFR weather (fogs, haze, etc.) because Meteoblue absolutely sucks when predicting that.

Now it seems they went with METARs only which means we have probably the most IRL weather we can get, but it introduced plenty of bugs and immersion breaking features.

So I ask everyone. What would you do with that? I don’t want to go back to Meteoblue only because I like flying in low IFR weather. I like fogs, haze, autolands, going around because I can’t see the runway.
But I also don’t want the weather to be boring and I don’t want the clouds looking weird.

We have a major frontal wave coming towards the eastern Czech Republic. There will be plenty of rain which will eventually change to snow. I’m really looking forward to testing the weather today. I want to see very thick clouds, basically from the surface up to high levels (like FL350 or so).

Is REX giving any improvement over the MSFS weather? I’m planning for some days to do my first VATSIM flight (after been active between 2011 to 2015 on IVAO in FS2004 and FSX) but not so sure about this when reading all of this

Just checked live weather at EHAM and it was spot on overcast with rain, further away it became broken just like it is here where I live

Can you show a screen shot of the overcast? I can’t access the sim right now. This is overcast to me and I have yet to see it anywhere since SU7. Thanks

This morning is first time I see actual overcast

This looks promising!

It’s the first time I’ve seen actual overcast since SU7

Yes actually it does :+1:

It seems to really depend on how the METAR and Meteoblue are communicating with each other. I think if there is too big a difference between what Meteoblue thinks there should be, and what the Metar says there is, then that’s when we see this incohesive mess

Yep, your screenshot is the first image of what I would call overcast since SU7. Thanks for that. Have you seen any high level layers such as this?:

I really miss this sort of thing.

Yes, as i have said. Metar and meteoblue weather needs to match to work properly. Maybe they can fix that but that will be a hard task.

Upper-level clouds are still there.

You can sort of see these type of clouds off the coast of Ibiza now:

It’s looking better than it was, but not quite as it was before SU7. Still, I’m more hopeful this morning than I was last night. Thanks for the screenshots.
