SimBrief Announces MSFS Toolbar Dispatch Addon - FSElite
Not sure if it’s just for 2024 or 2020 too.
The interface in the image is 2020, so I’d image both. I’m guessing this is to compete with the new flight planner that comes with FS2024 though.
Competition is good!
I’m also thinking this is for both. I doubt third party developers would have had that much lead time to develop something like this for '24. I know they can get some early access, but it would be surprising if they had it that far in advance.
I’m curious about the “import to sim” feature. Wil it import to the sim flight planner or to just planes that have Simbrief integration?
Probably like a sync with sim does in some of the aircraft (eg. FBW) that have simbrief integration. Can be used for VFR maps or ATC etc. They have the sync with sim option in their EFB. I doubt it goes straight into the world planner as you can load a flight plan from there already. The panel has to be in game so I’m thinking sync is for ATC and VFR map.
I noticed Parallel42 had an update to FlowPro a few days to “to support a new Navigraph product.”
Pretty much sure that will only be for 2020 as on 2024 we’ll have the EFB for such stuff. That also allows integration of third party pages as told on stream.
Just got an email that the add-on is now released. I won’t be able to install and test until later, but you can find it here after signing into your Navigraph account.
Edit: Make sure to check the compatibility notes at the end, especially regarding the default VFR map use.
Maybe. I don’t have any idea what the new in-sim interface will be, so take this with a heap of salt, but strictly speaking to the notion of “competition” always being good, it really isn’t competition if you offer the same product virtually for free as part of the sim. Again, merits of the outcome aside, something like that can cause a cosmic shift, even abandonment of innovation or the entire competing product for an external developer that must charge a fee to survive. Then it’s back to no competition.
Not going into legalities at all (absolutely not the premise of what I’m saying, just the first example that came to mind, and any connection is a coincidence), but we’ve seen similar things in the past. To wit: anybody here still using Netscape Navigator?
I’m absolutely thrilled with the work WT has been doing, but I’m equally thrilled with the work Navigraph has been doing. I could be wrong, but I simply don’t see long-term viability for the latter’s product given the new direction of things. Hopefully I am wrong and/or they can pivot, which would possibly be a successful outcome of the “competition” of which you speak.
Either way, I’m glad they put this toolbar out.
This tool works really slick.
Having the interface in the sim and the 1 click import to the World Map feature is a massive benefit.
I haven’t ever liked the importing of a flight into the World Map interface. It has too many clicks, so the single click is super nice.
Don’t forget to choose a gate or you’re going to be on the runway already running!
Excellent, yes saves a lot of time setting up the flight in both Dispatch and MSFS.
Bet that gate bug still exists in 2024!
It really is nice to have it all integrated this way.
It’ll certainly be competition for the new fs2024 default nav system & data. As you say nice to have it there. Navigraph always do top quality work it has to be said.
I have been extremely impressed with them over the course of the time I’ve had a subscription. I enjoy receiving their email newsletters detailing what they have been up to – one of the few emails worth reading, I might add!
My only complaint is not every default aircraft is in their system. I’ve been enjoying the Diamond DA40NG lately for some VFR flying, and it’s not in there. Not a huge issue, though.
I think my only complaint with the new in game Simbrief dispatch in sim panel is that I usually need all that info when I’m setting up an FMS, and have been using the excellent freeware Simbrief panel (now called “briefing panel”) for that data. It is concise, but more importantly small so it can sit side by side with the FMC and I can quickly see the important/relevant data from it. The new Navigraph simbrief in game panel takes up about 2x the real estate and obscures my view of the FMS so I’m less likely to use it based on that single factor alone. It is however handy for doing takeoff and landing performance calcs especially since those are missing on the A380X EFB right now.
Briefing panel (top left), new Simbrief dispatch panel (bottom left)
manually shrinking the tool to the same size as the briefing panel doesn’t help, but shows you the issue. The menu size alone doesn’t scale.
ps. Does anyone know if the in game panel has a show/hide keyboard shortcut. Like Navigraph has CTRL+N to show hide it without closing it (which shuts it down). I looked in the manual, but can’t see anything.
If we are only using MSFS and we have SimBrief Dispatch for MSFS installed, do we still need the SimBrief Downloader?
I’m guessing no, but I’m not sure.
