Hi,
Just got my setup finished, and it included a nice touch screen with g1000 overlay… but using the in sim popout displays causes huge frame drops. So I’ve been using fs2020bmap… which does exactly what I want…a simile gps map that follows my plane and shows my flight path.
It does seem to be randomly causing the sim to crash though. Is there any other (preferably also free) software that I could use? I’ve taken a look at little navmap, but it’s a bit too in depth for my current skill level.
Ideally, I want something basically exactly the same as bmap, or even just the in sim map, but without crashing and without losing half my fps.
Any suggestions?
LittleNavmap is very easy to use. I would go with that. - Else i have no ideas.
I would still recommended little nav map. There are many ways to configure the map to turn off anything you don’t want displayed, so you can make it as simple as you want.
It’s not hard to learn. It also has a good online manual.
It’s free, doesn’t task your system, and is actively supported. Highly recommended.
Ok, I’ll take another look. There just seemed to be so much going on. All I really want it to do is take the flight plan I make in the sim and show it on a moving map… which i can then drag on to the touchscreen to show under the Garmin overlay.
Anyone recommend a simple tutorial for this on YouTube or something?
Ah, ok… I see, so you can tell it not to display loads of things like airspaces etc etc.
So I kind of have it working now. For airport navigation, finding the runways and taxi ways, it’s great.
It’s following my plane in the sim too.
One thing I can’t work out… how to you get it to import your flight plan from the sim?
I can only find things to create a flight plan within the app… which also works fine… except it’s often different to what the sim is saying, so I’ll be talking to atc, and they’re asking me to do something totally different to what’s on my lnm plan, because they seem to be following the sims fp.
In the world map, find the LOAD/SAVE option. Save it as a .PLN file, then load that with LNM.
Thanks. I’ll give this a go later. Just did a quick test flight from ibiza to mallorca. Around 40 minutes in my little cessna 152. No crashes (either software, or flight haha).
Have to admit, for simplicity, bmap is amazing… but for airport navigation, lnm is even better.
Only issue I had apart from not fully understanding how to use lnm yet… is that an error popped up about atc voices or something, so around half way through the flight I had to start reading atc instead of listening. Maybe just a bug in the sim.
If you just want a map that shows you where you are without all the bells and whistles of LNM, try Flight Events: https://events.flighttracker.tech/
Thank you, I’ll check this out too
Another LNM fanboi here, well worth the small effort needed to learn to use the bits you need IMHO.
