Simulator times out when trying to launch game

Whenever I try to launch the ms store version (not Xbox) it comes up with a pop up asking for something like a prerequisite file (doesn’t say what it’s trying to install) I’ll click on ok then a progress bar will show for like a split second and then nothing and I’ll sit there for approximately 10-15 minutes and the simulator still hasn’t launched and then it will eventually come up with a error stating that it has timed out. My steam version (knock on wood) still seems to work fine on the same exact computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try: reboot pc, then go to the ms store app: check for updates and install anything new, before touching msfs.

Tried multiple times restarting pc, the only updates are ones that error out on the windows store and don’t seem to affect the simulator (or at least didn’t) even tried running it through the Xbox pc app and still the same thing. Even tried to uninstall and reinstall the “launcher”, had the actual game files (not ones related to the launcher) backed up so in the event of a reinstall I hopefully wouldn’t have to reinstall 100+ GB of data and maybe if any far less than that.

What worked for me when my in-game updater was downloading…and then my computer just decided it wanted to reboot…

I went into the \Offical folder. It’s at the same level as your \Community. Went into Offical, sorted by date, and grabbed some of the most recent files and moved them out of the folder. When I restarted MSFS, it figured out that something was missing, and downloaded the stuff + the latest update. It’s worth a shot!

Just want to confirm this, it’s nothing I’ve dealt with yet, so it’s learning for me too…

-You have bought and installed the steam version AND the ms store version.
So you have 2 separate copies of msfs installed on the same pc, one in your steam folder and one under windows ( in whichever path you chose to install )
-Did they both run ok previously or is the ms store a new install and will not run ?
-xbox app is installed and logged onto?

For the store apps timing out, which ones?
Maybe run the ts as well for that.

That’s not the issue I don’t even get to the splash screens(Asobo, Xbox game studios, etc…) I see nothing before it times out.

Yes to all, I’ve tried the troubleshooter, not every singe option and still nothing. Pc not accessible right now (at work). If the steam version runs fine shouldn’t whatever updates are timing out/throwing errors on the windows store not make a difference as shouldn’t they be using the same files the only difference is what platform they are on?

I can only imagine somewhere in C: User apdata where they are both trying to live together there’s going to be issues.

It’s never had an issue before until now. Having both installed. If even anything changed in that respect.

Oh dangit, I misunderstood. I’m sorry :frowning:

That’s ok simple mistake, your idea would most likely work if I could at least get to where it initially checks for updates but I can’t even get there.

I can’t recall - but I’m guessing you’re headed for a full removal / reinstall?

Unless I can figure out something else most likely yes a re-install. But in my case I have the simulator files backed up (not launcher files) so if I can get the launcher running it should be only a matter of maybe letting it download a gig or two, pause the download then copy backed up files over (overwrite any existing files) and “should” be good to go minus downloading any new updates since backup was made.
