Simulitating 1440p

Im running a RTX 2060 Super on a 1080p monitor.

If I turn up render scaling appropriately can I simulate a 1440p workload.

If I cant handle 1440p workload I might postpone the monitor purchase to after the video card.

I know I could run the 1440p monitor at 1080p if I needed as well.

More or less, yes. 1440p is 33.33…% more pixels in each direction versus 1080p (77.77…% overall), which means setting render scale to 133.333 should give you the same result. Since that’s not possible, try 130 and 140 render scale and see how it works.

Edit: You can also enable DSR in the NVIDIA settings and actually set the game to 2560x1440. I think the two are equal in theory, but I’d trust the latter more.
Nvidia Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings -> DSR factors
You just check the correct box (should be 1.78x), restart the sim and change the resolution. It will render at 1440p and scale it down to fit the monitor. You can check all the boxes and simply get a longer list of resolutions to choose from.

I’ve tried the dsr option, must say it looks awful on a HD monitor. I’ve got a 27 inch 144hz but native 1080p. Scenery looks good but instruments are a pain in the behind. Lol :joy:
Anyway, could be different with another monitor. But i think the capabilities of native HD monitors just don’t cut it. Too pixely.

Huh! I haven’t tried DSR in MSFS but resolution scaling 130-140 certainly looks better for me. That said, it’s a near-certainly that 1440p on a 1440p monitor will look better than any res on a 1080p monitor.

Sure. But I only have a 1080p monitor, like i said, upscaling ingame looks nice but kills fps, DSR kills fps AND instruments are barely readable and blurry. :joy:

I run the 2060s on my 1440p screen and get anywhere between 30-50fps on high/ultra. I have limited the game to 50fps to reduce the noise the card makes when running on 98% the entire time.

Do you use the FBW A320 by any chance, and if you do, how are your FPS with that at some kind of major airport?
