SimWorks Studios PC-12 (47 and NG)

I wanted to buy this plane straight away but have changed my mind after following the discussions here. I also watched a YouTube video with a real world PC 12 pilot. The out of controll take off and landing made me stop flying the Kodiac too. Are the developers planning to change this? This can’t be just a controlller setting issue.
Together with the Nav equipment set-up issues I am pretty disappointed but hopeful they will fix it.

I don’t just see how it’s possible. Please make a video when you do it.

I was first quite reluctant, especially after seeing all the bad comments here.
For me at least, the plane is absolutely controllable, both during cross wind takeoffs and landings.
Fly by the books and you will come along just fine.
You simply cannot bank and yank around and be of the opinion that it would work well that way.

I have not been tackling the cordinated turn challenge - but i have been finding take off a lot better (start progressively pull the stick as soon as it hits the white arc) and landings - whilst hard (192fpm) are getting better, though the plane does get squirrely as it slows. Switching to ground idle as soon as you can safely do so sort of helps.

You have to run the Companion exe and you have to click on Start Server

Once you have done that click on the Blue link above the button “open Sky4Sim Pad in your Web Browser”

This checks if it is working. From there, there are some options you will need to do in the browser window that opens, like Import the MSFS Nav Data so you can see your Add-on Airports, Get a Bing Maps Access key (It is free and the Docs tell you how)

Leave it running then start your sim. You can close it all down once you have finished with MSFS.

I’m torn as to whether I should buy the PC-12 or not. SWS products are generally very good, for example the Kodiak or RV-10, both of which I love to fly. But from what I read here, the PC-12 seems to have a few bugs and above all some inconsistencies in flight behavior. I think I will wait until the majority of the community is convinced by the product.

Thanks to everyone who shares their experiences here. That’s what a community is for.

I am going to buy it later today. At first I was concerned but after watching the video with the PC12 pilot having minor issues of any, I’m looking forward to flying it. I have full confidence that any bugs will be fixed within the limits of FS’s limitations.

I have to admit that if a good vendor made a PC12 for XP12, I would probably buy that instead. But it would probably cost twice as much and the scenery wouldn’t compare…

I’m sure there might be a few bugs and tweaks to be handled but I have to say, three flights in and I’m totally hooked!

Beatiful cockpit, great sounds, feels heavy at higher speeds but very nicely connected to your inputs during takeoff/landning. Also has a nice touchdown “feeling” which I personally think is very important. I think this plane is a steal at €25!

I seem to remember when the Kodiak came out, some people (myself inlcuded) were a bit negative in the beginning before we learned how that particular plane actually behaves vs how we thought it does. I humbly suggest we all read the manual, use flat controller-curves and trim properly. Anything wierd still remaining after that, I’m certain the dev will be happy to fix.

That’s very sensible. No point rushing in if you are not too sure.

Personally, I’m waiting for the ‘failures’ expansion to come out (whenever that is) before I buy (probably). I’m guessing by that time the addon should be in a pretty good state too.

So if I understand correctly we absolutely need to use sky4sim for this aircraft ?

No, it is an option we provided. The tablet is blank by default, while we are working on our own. There are users that want Sky4Sim, so we just made sure to give a ready-to-use mod for it.

Ah ok so your own EFB is still WIP then, ok thx

In a normal day I would have bought it along with the TBM and the FSR500, I just love good aircraft developed by good devs.

But in the case of the PC12 I’m going to pass, at least until we have the NG, that one I will buy even if the rudder is stuck and you have to takeoff laterally.

My reasons are simple: This one is too close to the Carenado PC12 that I already own, yes SWS’ version it is better but is not really a lot better. The physics are strange and it doesn’t seem to have the same level of attention we got from the TBM or the FRS500.

It’s already in a good state. No aircraft is bug free once it hits release simply because the much larger sample size exposes anything that was missed by the dev and a few testers. Comanche, FSR500,TBM850, C310R, C414 all needed fixing after release. It’s the nature of the beast. The good devs fix them up as the reports come in and SWS have a record of doing that so no worries on that front.

How would you know how much better it is if you don’t have both to compare. I purposefully avoided the Carenado and patiently waited for this one. It was worth the wait. Compare what you get for the price and this is a great deal.

I will get the NG 100% sure the minute it goes out. For this one I can wait until the bugs are ironed out and then decide.

I totally agree, I skipped the Carenado PC12 because everyone of their planes flies the same. Sure they look nice but that is it.
I purchased this and I have only done 2 flight and I really like it. Using Sky4sim and the PMS GTN750 setup. Everything has worked as it should. I flew a 2 hour flight and the auto pilot tracked my GPS flight plan great. Was at flight level 24 and used the GTN to calculate my decent, then a did an ILS approach and it tracked the GS as expected. Yes takeoff and landings can be a bit exciting but my second landing was smooth even with the controller yelling at me that I did not have clearance to land……oops. Need to do a little takeoff practice. This plane feels heavy in the air and I think flys a bit more like a real plane with my limited hours of real life flying.

Haven’t bought the AC yet but have followed the thread and it looks like there are still a few things to iron out. Probably not serious issues but issues non the less.

As you say, SWS have a good record so no doubt they will be sorted out.

From my own point of view I already have the FSR 500 and TBM 850 so I am not quite sure at the moment if it will be sufficiently different to those to interest me. Maybe when the failures expansion comes. I have also just bought the Vulcan so have my hands full there too.

So many good AC at the moment. The problem is finding the time to fly them all :slightly_smiling_face:

A little bit of mis-leading info may catch you out. It’s clearly stated in the manual that ground power is not modelled yet the switch and worse the annunciation that says on when the switch is on may lead you to believe it works. It certainly does not. Found out first, read manual second.

Please SWS this needs to be implemented along with the AVAIL annunciator.

For me personally the release of the TDM850 and the FSR M500 was exceptional comparable to the Pmdg737 and Fenix 320. It felt that I bought a great product, well developed, minor bugs. I am very tired of buying unfinished products. Developers make a lot of money considering the large MSFS community. There is inevitability a conflict of interest.
I don’t care what tweaking it takes to manage a somehow accessible take off and landing. Such a plane behavior simply should not make it past the testing stage.
I emphasize again that the Kodiak has the same problem and was never fixed.
