Thank you very much, only thing that worked was downloading through a VPN.
Is the default bandwidth usage set to 5mb/s?, and if so does the installer then use this setting. Is there a way to set data bandwidth usage before downloading the 100+gb update when you first install.
I Donāt think itās limited by default. I downloaded it on the release day and got the full bandwitdh of my 300mbps connection.
I have at some point completely reinstalled it, some months after release so it would have been on a different version by then and it still downloaded at the full speed of my connection.
As per others, had to use a VPN again. Ridiculous issue with Microsoft here. ISP werenāt interested in the slightest to look into it. Iāve tried ever other solution in this forum to no avail.
If a VPN improves your download speeds substantially then the problem is your ISP, not Microsoft.
I canāt see that itās a problem with the Microsoft servers. Since I changed my network adapter settings Iāve always got around the full bandwidth I would expect from my 300mbps connection.
I have also helped a few friends who were getting slow speeds and they have now been getting speeds that are relevant to their ISP bandwidth.
Three of them were in the UK like me, but I also helped a friend of mine who lives in Cleveland (Ohio) and one in Sofia in Bulgaria using teamviewer to remotely change their settings.
I think itās some obscure problem with Network adapter and/or router/windows settings for most people.
This. Iāve seen some mentions of routes in this thread. In this day and age, there are not routers on the Internet backbone that are not well equipped to route traffic, or without sufficient bandwidth.
If VPN improves download speeds, then either your own SOHO router is performing some form of QoS where this kind of traffic is deprioritized, or your ISP is. When you introduce a VPN, the ISP is no longer able to ascertain that your MSFS traffic should be low priority.
That will probably end up, in the future, with the ISP throttling VPN traffic altogether. Because they are playing a game of oversubscribing their own capacity and trying to āmanageā the user experience as best they can.
In my view, itās time to find another ISP when speeds improve over VPN.
I think it is important for anyone who streams (video or games) to use the very best router that they can afford. Routers provided by ISPs are often low quality, as are many sold off the shelf that are in the sub-$100 category.
My own router is a Netgear RAXE500, which retails for $600, but is worth every penny. It supports 8 simultaneous streams. I use it with two TVs and MSFS, and I always get high bandwidth with the sim during updates. That has been the case since the alpha. I also own my own cable modem rather than using one provided by ISP.
Thanks for the feedback. Iāve finally finished downloading it
. First thing i checked when opening it was the data bandwidth limit and mine shows 5ms/s as default. I dont know if this is because i got it off gamepass or its set it from something to do with the pc or game pass app. But ive changed it to unlimited now.
OMG. This did it! I was stuck downloading at 10Mbit/s despite having a gigabit connection. Now Iām at least getting over 100Mbit.
It“s not a joke.
It“s a global problem. Costumers from all planet has this problem, even me, from brazil.
All that bla bla bla, tracert, VPN.
My ISP work 100% for all internet, less for flight simulator.
Microsoft infrastructure is a joke
I had a similar prob, but using a decent VPN like express VPN fixed it once foreverā¦
Tried other vpnās in the past and those didn`t help. Been skeptic to try another one. It worked like a charm! DL speed went up from 1.2 Mb/s to 115 Mb/s on a 750Mb/s fibre. Thanks a lot @Ruckiii !!
Never ever use wifi when downloading. I use a network cable and a VPN. 6x faster download speedā¦
Same boat here, and not the first time.
Indian Ocean, solid optic fiber ISP (1Gbps dn/600 Mbps up), Windows 11.
VPN off. I might try with my VPN later unless I just uninstall MSFS (again).
Itās the only software on my system that offers such miserable download speeds.
Other simulations and games just have lightspeed downloads compared to this.
I finally got a fix for download speed I havenāt seen which is stupid simple. I signed up just to share it.
I was struggling getting beyond 2-3mbps while downloading with steam version of msfs, even with starlink and a new computer. None of the fixes like netsh or latest Intel killer network drivers or disabling umpteen things did anything.
I followed steps for proper clean install on flightsimulator.zendesk, now getting 46mbps at least while downloading.
-Uninstall msfs through steam
-Go to package folder (default is c:.users .yourusername.appdata.roaming.Microsoft Flight Simulator.packages), delete all packages
-Reinstall msfs through steam.
Itās that easy.
I also made sure usercfg.opt reflected correct path.
Way too easy, I feel dumb spending way too much time combing the forums with old data. Anyways hope this helps somebody out
Thanks. Worked for me.
I had set autotuning to disabled before and set the 100% bandwith but only from my local network.
Set Autotuning to Normal and included internet downloads as well. Immediately jumped up to acceptable speeds.
Glad it worked for you, I have been getting over 200mbps on every update or download since I posted the original suggestions.
This indeed is the solution. I had to figure it out myself, so seeing this post just now, I take my (proverbial) hat off to you for taking the time to put together such a detailed post within this thread. Thank you. Members of the community, such as yourself, are what make this hobby so great.
Thanks for your comments.
Itās worked for a good number of people, though not all it seems.
Obviously there could be a number of reasons why many have poor download speeds as there are many variables but itās never failed for me. I have assisted at least 10 people remotely in getting speeds appropriate to their bandwidth using the solution I provided.
One thing I could add is after the step where you change the autotuning level to Normal (or back to disable then back to normal again) is to reboot the PC inbetween changes. It wasnāt necessary in most cases but I did have a couple where a reboot between the changes seemed to fix it.
