Small request to the community

Guys, can I ask you to test one thing for me?

Looks like with the controls locking up I was looking in the wrong place.

After I’ve re-binded the ATC menu key in game from tab, back to scroll lock, the controls while using 787 are not locked up anymore. However, pressing empty TAB button, controls stop responding even though key is no longer used.

My request is this. If someone flies on keyboard or any controller really, could you go into 787, then press TAB to see if controls would lock up?

It’s important because it happens on my end where controls become COMPLETELY unresponsive.

Thank you.

Just tried it and I don’t get a lock up, sorry.

EDIT - on the runway, up and running, press TAB, and makes no difference, all controls seem to continue working. Not tried flying it

Can you keep trying? For some reason on my end it locks up controls.

What sort of controller do you use? This affects 787 for me only.

OK, so this is interesting. I got the AI co-pilot to take off, then took back control. All seemed to be working.

Then I pressed tab, and the controls locked - nearly all of them. No input controllers (yoke, quadrant etc) worked. Keyboard didn’t seem to work (couldn’t move the camera). Mouse view didn’t work either. However I could move the controls I could see with the mouse, like the throttles.

Anyway, after a few seconds, it all came back. So I thought that’s a bit weird so pressed tab again. This time it also came back but took a bit longer. I couldn’t identify anything specific I was doing after pressing tab that brought it back. Repeated this a few times.

Paused and went to controls to check that TAB was really “empty”. Turns out it wasn’t - I had these bindings:

So I removed them. Went back to the sim, and this time it was properly locked - it never returned.

So restarted the flight (just used ESC then restart). Got off the ground again with the AI co-pilot (I only fly GA!). Took back control…nothing - hadn’t even pressed TAB (other than to check it was unbound in the controls menu). No controls worked. Couldn’t move the camera etc as before.

This time went back to the world map. and properly resarted the flight. Same thing - everything still locked. I can move the controls I can see with the mouse though. But that’s it. All this without pressing TAB now.

I’m thinking I’ve broken the sim at this point. So now a full restart of the sim.

Now on the ground, everything seems to be working. Phew.

So press TAB on the ground. Doesn’t change anything. As before, all fine.

AI co-pilot takes off and I take back control. All working.

I press TAB…and it locks up again. As before. This time, as soon as I touch the throttle and move it with the mouse, the other controls “unlock”.

So I press TAB again…and locked. Moving the throttle a touch unlocks it again.

This is repeatable. It locks until I move one of the mouse controllable controls - but not all. Turning the AP switches isn’t enough. It seems to be I can unlock it by moving the throttle or speedbrake. Flaps doesn’t do it.

It is very odd. Even pressing TAB in the ESC menu does it!

EDIT - and only in flight

See? I told you. This is newly introduced issue.

787 is broken and TAB basically ruins the game, forcing to restart.

Well, not quite. Can you unlock it by moving throttle etc?

Throttle of the aircraft?

Yes, I can move the throttle with my mouse when it locks up, and that unlocks it for me. Read my post pls.

Allow me to try right away.

I mean it’s still a bug and you should zendesk it. I would also double check your TAB key is unbound from everything to be sure. I got a different experience after unbinding. Once unbound, I found I could unlock it by moving the throttle or speedbrake.

Yes, my controls return whenever I push throttle with mouse.

My tab is unbound, I have already made sure.

OK, I found that worked most of the time, but not 100%. Specifically it didn’t work when I switched window to type a reply to you in here and then switched back. Go figure. I’ve raised a ticket and you should too.

This reminds me of an old joke:

Man: Doctor, whenever I move my arm like this it hurts
Doctor: Well don’t move your arm like that then

So I guess, for now, don’t press the TAB key…!

Yes, uhh, when you press ALT + TAB, the ALT key does not let the game lock up controls because it acts as modifier. Perhaps devs left out some debugging tool and it locks up everything, and TAB was leftover shortcut.

Maybe, although I have two monitors, so was just clicking from one to the other. But you’re right, it looks like TAB is supposed to do something even if it isn’t bound.

Do your 787 interior shadows flicker too?

Yes, raised that as a bug too
