When I get frustrated with some of the idiosyncrasies of MSFS…then, everything comes together and the clouds are perfect, the water reflections are just right, and the lighting is awesome; its soo good. Then I’m in my happy place and I’m glad to be here.
On right downwind RW16 Kelowna, BC.
Carenado Piper Seminole.
Real weather.
absolutely agree…just upgraded my system, just re-installed MSFS, just purchased and flew the CRJ…all perfect and no surprises…what a wonderful world!!!
OK let us into your secret…specs of new system please? I’m still in no mans land…waiting for GPU’s etc to become available…
I too am waiting to upgrade my GPU (From a GTX1660), but I have a feeling it will be a l o n g wait, especially with that big traffic jam of ships waiting to get through the suez canal…
Well here’s what I’m using:
A four year old ibuypower PC
Intel® Core™ i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz 4.20 GHz
16.0 GB RAM
GeForce GTX1080
Runs MSFS pretty well with graphics settings on High and clouds on Ultra.
This right here. Couldn’t agree more.
I’ve experienced a lot of different issues over the past couple of months and I’m often very critical of MSFS as a result. But in the end, when everything works at least somewhat right, it’s stuff like this that sort of makes me briefly forget those issues and get lost and completely immersed in flying around the incredible digital planet Asobo have created.
My problem is that once I run FS, I am doomed to forget the time and usualy at least 4 hours will pass before I even realise it !
i5 9600K OC’d to 4.8Gig
32 GB Sys RAM
Factory OC’d GTX 1660 (6 GB)
OS is on a 1 TB M.2 NVME
FS installed on 1 TB M.2 NVME
50GB Rolling cache and a lot on Manual cache
FS is all set to HIGH and I get mid to high 30s
Same here. Completely forget the time. I know I should be outside cutting grass or something…but no…flying is better.
That’s what I thought and then checked what I’d get for my old card, checked on used higher end cards and compared the difference.
So here I am with an RTX 2080 after having sold my old and rusty RX 570 with both having a price difference nearly the same as I’d have if prices were normal.
The upgrade was well worth it and now I have a lot of time until the new GPU needs an upgrade. Looking for a RTX 30x0 is simply no fun and I have better things to do.
Sorry for the off topic, but maybe for some of you in that situation, this approach might help
Hi
I just got a pre-built package.
RTX 3080 Gaming PC, Intel Core i7 10700KA 8 Core, Z490 Chipset, GeForce RTX 3080 10GB, 32GB 3600MHz RAM, 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, 2TB HDD, Fractal Design Case, 850W PSU, Win 10 Home
very smooth operation of the CRJ. But still experimenting of course…
Nearly identical specs - 2016 “vintage” pc, home built. Only difference to your specs is 32 GB RAM. Runs MSFS very well and I also have most graphics on high, clouds on ultra as well as texture. It’s mostly smooth, but noticing a little bit more stuttering after latest update. Before that, was buttery smooth. It’s still highly enjoyable and I haven’t flown P3D or X-Plane in weeks for all the same reasons you’ve listed.
when I installed on this system, many of the default settings were set at Ultra, so I guess I have a bit to play with should problems emerge…
Not that this is a competition or anything but, I’m flying on a vintage 2012 PC - i7 3770K 32GB RAM and a vintage 2014 GTX1060. I typically get around 30 to 47-ish FPS in GA aircraft, dropping no lower than 24 FPS in heavy photogrammetry areas. 1080p with High settings. And as to OP said, when everything comes together, it’s so good…better than good…it’s magical.
Call it a screenshot simulator or whatever. As long as I can fly radials, an ILS, and have these beautiful visuals at these framerates, I’m a happy camper.
