Absent the option to create our own polls. I’d be interested to know which of the two that you own that you’re using for actual flights rather than testing things and sightseeing/looking at new features.
I’m on PC, FS24 is loaded and awaiting improvements, but I’m only using FM20 for flying.
Personally, 2020. I’m an Xbox player and I’m tired of all the little issues and bugs that I’m coming across. Half of the bugs are here because of lack of effort. Most issues just require “a copy and paste” from 2020. I know it’s not that easy to do but a lot of these issues could have been avoided by better testing on the Xbox side.
I hope it’s ok to chime in here. I am on FS2020 100% because I haven’t bought FS24. I want to get FS24 - I want to be on board. I am excited for the new features. I also remember FS2020 taking roughly 2 years (in my experience) to become a stable platform, so I am approaching FS24 with a ton of caution and unfortunately it was well warranted. My current sense is hopefully in 3 - 6 months we will have a real release candidate. I appreciate everyone going through the public beta, but with work and family I don’t have time for that.
Right now, given the incomplete state of 24, here’s how I roll:
2020 when I want to enjoy…
Add-on airports and scenery
Airliners and turbine aircraft
All the procedures I know well
Black Square GA
Boeing by PMDG
Flying IFR in IMC
Live weather
Navigraph
SimBrief
(Series X here)
2024 when I want to experience…
A walk around preflight inspection
Aircraft I don’t have in 2020
Binding controls to hardware
Doing things differently
EFB as a novel tool
Flying VFR in VMC
Flora, fauna, nature
FFX G2 Vision Jet
Something new
Taking a walk
World updates
Of course, this will change over time as 24 develops. Right now I have the best of both worlds!
I had high hopes for 2024 but at this moment it is unusable on Xbox IMO - even mouse freelook does not work and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I don’t think 2024 is going to be playable in the nearest months.
FS2024. I wouldn’t even have launched FS2020 in a month if I hadn’t made a list of all my Marketplace purchase to check whether everything made it to FS2024 eventually.
Currently I’m not doing much flying because I’m the process of migrating everything to my new rig. The first tests with everything on Ultra were very nice and smooth, though.
2020 due to superior visuals and performance in the places I like to fly most, incl. the Alps, Southern Europe, NZ, PNW. Switch 2024 to summer months and you will see washed out satellite imagery missing the color corrections and WU improvements found in 2020. Also, photogrammetry loads slower and trees are overdone/wrong in many places in 2024. The clouds and places like Grand Canyon look awesome in 2024 so there is potential. Performance wise, 2020 feels more optimized in terms of FPS and looks sharper at 4K and Ultra settings. Default planes continue to be garbage and it will take a while for all top payware to be fully compatible with 2024. 2024 has so far disappointed based on the marketing hype.
I want to believe in 2024, but it´s actually lost time: CTD, broken mouse, poor quality sceneries (mountains etc), light in panels that don´t work … list of bugs is endless… Maybe in summer 2025 it is out of beta.
2024 is now default. Hands down. No major problems for me. Vast improvements in scenery and flight modeling. Absolutely love the seasonal flora - bare deciduous trees look magnificent in the north this time of year. Superior cloudscapes too. Taxiing around and taking off from grass strips, you can still see your old tire tracks after flying the pattern and returning. (Maybe in 2020 too, but I never noticed it before). Terrain, textures, detail - just awesome…
Sad thing is, I bought the premium deluxe version but now almost exclusively fly 3rd party 2020 aircraft in 2024 - BS piston Duke, BS TBM 850 and A2A Comanche. Love old-school analog GA props. The flight modeling for these 3 seem pretty dam good. Doing circuits with the Piper around remote short, grass strips and a cross wind… just a blast.
Had my fill of the big airliners in XPlane. (FlyJSim had a 727 and a 738 that I spent a lot of time in). Maybe I’ll give the big birds a try again one of these days in 2024. Right now, too much fun with old-school props - down low, taking in this detailed, gorgeous rural scenery.
I have not yet seen anything in MSFS2024 that convinces me.
ATC is as bad.
Visuals in MSFS2020 ( Vive Pro 2 ) TBH, are more realistic.
I have watched a few MSFS2024 Gameplay vids and IMHO, the horizon is too sharp. There is always dust and humiduty, and MSFS2020 unwittingly has this.
I fly from Valley to Cosford. The hangars are seen from 9 miles.
2020 for me, I turn on 2024 once a week and poke around but have yet to fly it. No rush, I’ll wait until it’s more stable and the MP has been implemented.
As for all the new features, I have those covered by third party in 2020 so not really missing out on anything.
