Just got my RTX 3080 Ti, spent the last few days trying/playing 30+ games ane enjoying the ultra settings on every game (coming from a GTX 1070). Microsoft flight simulator, however, just crashes. I’ve played this game just fine on a 970 and a 1070, but after popping in the 3080 Ti, the game just will not load. I can’t even get to the lobby because the game crashes while either looking for files to update or downloading updates. I’ve not been able to get past 100 mb of files downloaded from the 5gb update I need to download. I’ve tried about everything I found on here or on the nvidia forum. It’s especially difficult to identify people with similar issues because most people have the 3080 and not the 3080 ti so I can’t tell if it’s the exact same problem. Is there anyone else out there with the 3080 ti facing the same issue?
Here’s my system:
Ryzen 7 3800X at stock freq
64gb DDR4 3000mhz
MSI Trio X RTX 3080 Ti 12GB
removed all overclock settings - I’ve reset my OC settings for my cpu and ram, gpu is just installed, not touched OC at all yet
run in administrator mode
uninstalled the game and reinstalled the game
tried setting affinity
tried Nvidia game settings to performance mode
tried varous display resolutions
tried configuring/flushing dns
tried downloading fresh to a new path
tried downloading fresh to a new disk
tried installing an older version of the driver (this is a newish card so it only has two versions of the driver)
Considering this setup works with every other game I’ve thrown at it I’m inclined to think it’s issue with the game, but then I was also able to play the game just fine when I used a 970 or a 1070 so I’m at a loss where the issue is. If anyone has the same card with the same issue, please help.
A friend of mine got a 3080 last week and couldn’t run MSFS without crashing. Other games no problems.
We tried lots of suggestions but got nowhere until I suggested we tried a spare PSU I had, an 850W EVGA SuperNova GT.
Replaced his 750W corsair RM750 which is only 3 months old and MSFS works fine with my 850W PSU.
So might just be worth checking out your PSU, just because it runs other games ok isn’t the best indicator that all is well.
Well, this is kind of embarrassing, I guess I haven’t tried everything suggested from Microsoft. It turns out it’s the c++ redistributables, I had a whole bunch (10+) different installed ranging from 2012 to 2015. Uninstalled every one of them and installed the latest 2015-2019 one and the update is downloading, hasn’t crashed in 5 minutes so things are looking up ish.
I did this C++ fix and it did not fix my issue. My RTX 3080TI would crash in all modes except for “Low End” settings. I looked at what settings were turned off in “Low End” and decided to try turning off anisotropic filtering and texture supersampling. All of a sudden I had no crashes where I had crashes within 60 seconds of run.
Decided to turn on anisotropic filtering but keep texture supersampling off, and again no crashes. I was able to turn my system all the way up to ultra as long as I kept texture supersampling off and my system is stable. My memory is running hot; about 82 degrees Celsius.
However so far no crashes. I pared back the settings to “High End” and at that setting on my EVGA RTX 3080TI SC Ultra I’m clocking 54 frames per second on the ground and a solid 60 frames per second in the air at 4K.
Not bad in spite of the fact that I am underclocking my card to 1530MHz and undervolting it at 800 millivolts. Keeps it cool so that I don’t burn it up and lessen its life. Highly recommended.
There may be a bug in the NVIDIA driver or in FS with regard to supersampling that may be causing these crashes. Just my observation your mileage may vary.
