Some hints for cases of FPS degradation

I have a high end system and was happily flying in VR, with very high (as in: peasant) frame rates. I never use the FR counter, but judge the quality of my simming experience by how well it does at creating deep immersion.

Some days ago, I suddenly found that I had stutters, a jerky image and bad frame rates. I started to fiddle with the VR graphics settings, essentially lowering all settings until performance was more or less like before. That kind of worked, but the image quality was not like before.

Today, while uprading my Nvidia driver, I noticed that the Gforce Experience program had ā€žoptimizedā€œ all my MSFS related settings. I now was on DX12, DLSS was on, basically all sliders were on Ultra. With DX12 on, I had DLSS selected in VR Graphics settings (something I thought was not yet possible).

To cut a long story short: I set my G-Force Experience to manual, started the sim and deselected DX-12 under PC options. In VR options, I returned to the settings that had worked well in the past, a mixture of High and Ultra.

The result: Iā€˜m back to totally fluid and immersive VR flight!
But Iā€˜ll have to remember next time a degradation of performance happens, that the G-Force Experience settings is the first thing to check, followed by re-setting all the graphics settings in MSFS.

I hope this will help others who ran into similar problems!

What do you mean by ā€œpeasant frame ratesā€?

…us country folks have a different notion of time (and FPS) than you city dwellers, thatā€˜s all

I indeed go by feeling only when it comes to the VR performance of the sim. For me, itā€˜s all about immersion. And of course how the experience makes me feel physically. In VR, motion sickness or general uneasiness can set in quickly if FPS are low or the sim runs choppy.
