So I’ve run across a very strange bug that is essentially decimating my ability to play the sim. Some keys (seemingly randomly) will continue to repeat the command as long as the key is pressed.
For example, pressing the “toggle drone” key will very quickly toggle the view between drone and normal view back and forth over and over and over again very quickly (as long as the key is pressed, instead of a single time). So even if you just tap the key qucikly, the toggle will fire off several times and you don’t know which view you’ll end up in.
This is happening with several keys across the letters, number, and numpad. It essentialy makes the sim unflyable as you don’t know what the keys are going to do.
Here is a video example I made to show exactly what I mean: strobe (streamable.com)
In the video I have numpad 4 assigned to custom view 4. Normally pressing numpad 4 will toggle a single time between the custom view and previous view. However this key is broken in the way I’ve explained above. Watch the video.
However numpad key 5 behaves as expected (single press, single camera change).
Please can someone help me. Has this happened to ANYONE else?
I think I’ve seen similar behavior. IIRC the default autopilot mapping for increasing/decreasing HDG is Ctrl+Insert and Ctrl+Delete respectively. If I held one of these combos down more than a second or two to do a fairly large heading change, I’d often release the keys but the heading bug kept going ad-infinitum. Thereafter no keyboard commands would work and the plane would be uncontrollable, forcing me to kill the FlightSimulator.exe process and start over. As a workaround, I mapped the HDG +/- to a toggle on my Saitech Yoke, which works just fine. Maybe a keyboard buffering issue?
Does this sound like what you’re experiencing? I’ve not had this issue with other key-holds, like adjusting the autopilot altitude…just heading.

it’s key-specific, so doesn’t matter what action I map to the key, if it’s infected, it’ll repeat the command ad infinitum.
Several of the numpad numbers, the C key, the Z key, etc
Yeah, that seems different than my experience. Just for kicks, do you have another keyboard laying around? Might be worth quickly swapping it out just to eliminate it as a potential cause.
Key Repeat is a feature in WindowS. The time delay until repeat starts and the time between each repeat are adjustable. Extending the delay is helpful for heavy fingers. Probably should start there. Reapeating keys impact keybindings differently. Repeating keys are helpful when changing something up or down like altitude settings or OBS settings.
interesting theory. but checked it out and it’s not relevant here.
first, this only happens in MSFS. I play DCS World and use many keyboard shortcuts but none of them repeat.
second, i checked the delay, put it to maximum, and tried again. but in MSFS, there is no delay at all. if there was I could handle it. But in MSFS the key action begins immediatly upon pressing, as you can see in the video i posted.
I have the same problem. For me it’s the Toggle next custom camera command. I changed the repeat key speed and changes to different key combos but nothing helped. Same issue. Now I have to tap dance over the button to change my views.
do you have other keys like this? have you tried different commands to the same key?
You know I haven’t tried other keys in a while, but I just tested a new key command and I cannot repeat the issue. But it can’t be the hardware, it works fine in other games and apps. I normally use the SPace bar to change custom views, which is the key with the issue on changing custom views.
ah. see mine is tied to the key it seems. doesn’t matter that command I place, say, on the Z key. pressing the Z will always rapidly repeat the same command over and over doesn’t matter what it is.
I had this problem a while ago with custom camera views I had mapped to the numpad. I would press the keybind ,which I had mapped to my numpad, and the camera would cycle really fast between the default view and the custom view I wanted, instead of just going to and staying on the custom view.
The fix for me was to go into keybindings and swap the primary and secondary keybinds. There is a box that has the default keybind and a box that has the secondary keybind, just re-keybind them in the opposite column. I’ll login to the sim and take screenshots of what I mean.
So just swap the keybinds so the one in the left column is now in the right column, and the one in the right column is now in the left.
Interestingly, I have to have the default keys keybound though. If I just have the custom keybind I want and the secondary slot empty, then none of them even work. But swapping columns like I said did the trick for me.
I know it sounds silly, but it worked for me. Please let me know if this helped.

I agree, try another keyboard.
Hello,
this problem started with SU7 so isn’t new. Many users started reporting problems with user defined camera views, also me. Nothing with Win here. This problem is somehow depended to bug with bindings where only keyboard is affected. No problem here with joystick same function binding.
Simple and elegant. LOL. I love it! I’ll give it a try after work. Thank you!

interesting. i’ll try this.
yeah i added the video because it’s hard to explain the issue. and to me it seemed to be random. some num keys were affected, some are not.
for me also the ‘Z’ key behaves the same way, and sometimes the ‘A’ key. You only really notice it when changing views because you can see what’s happening, but it happens with many other commands as well.
But ill experiment with what you said as your issue looks the most similar yet to mine
Well hopefully it fixes the issue for you. I looked further into it. According to a few people, the left column seems to be single entering commands and the right column seems to be multiple entering commands.
Here is a snip of the explanation from @NixonRedgrave, who describes it better than me, in this topic: Keyboard Bouncing in SU8 - #8 by NixonRedgrave

it worked!!
and finally explained why some of my keys were “infected” and some weren’t. about half of my custom key commands were in the “right column”.
once i reset and moved them all to the “left column” they stopped repeating. thanks goodness this just saved the game for me

Worked for me too!!! Thank you smart people!!!

That certainly sounds like a bug worth filing with Zendesk, with the assumption the key shouldn’t repeat no matter which column it is in.
