Sound out of main speakers instead of VR (Valve Index) when entering VR

When i press ctl tab to enter VR the sound comes out of my main speakers & does not switch to my index headphones.
This is despite selecting index in sound options. Radio does come through my headphones though. Windows is showing index in the sound option correctly but the game seems to just override this.
Every time i start the game in 2d it switches back to default windows sound source.

The only way i can get it to work is to start FS with VR already on in steam but then there is a dramatic drop in performance. That is perhaps a different issue/bug because i do not see why it should turn the game into a slideshow but it does.

Can you post a screen shot of your sound settings in FS?

In Windows task bar, on the right
Right-Click on the little speaker
Open sounds parameters and select your headset for output

As mentioned in the original post windows is already showing the correct (index) sound source. Audio from steam vr menu also works correctly.
Its probably something to do with the fact that the index audio only becomes availably when steam vr is on. In every other software & game it just switches the audio to vr as soon as vr is switch on but FS just ignores it unless VR is already on when i start the game.

I’ve had this same issue with my Index and this game for a long time. My workaround is to start SteamVR before starting MSFS.

I had this issue with the Reverb G2. Reset to default settings worked for me, give it a go.
