Showing my age here, but there was a TV show called “Dallas” that ran from like 1979 - 1983 I think… a lot of it was filmed at Southfork Ranch. To this day, they have tours of the house and the ranch. Well, I can find it on Google maps, but the sim does not seem to show it…I even put the coordinates in and tried to find it with the Volocpotor and I could not find it. I think maybe it is due to that far out of Dallas, near Plano is not photogrammetry so the AI must be doing what it wants to render that area… has anyone ever searched for this ranch in the sim?
Let me fire up my scenery development tool package and I’ll render the 'ole Southfork in photogrammetry goodness. JR’s digs deserve a decent rendering in the sim.
I remember that show! (Now I have the theme song stuck in my head!)
One thing to note is that when you start from coordinates in the sim, it puts you a little bit behind those coordinates so you can fly to that part.
I don’t know if you have developer mode on Xbox, but if you do, you can start a flight, go to developer mode and go to Windows > Teleport Window and type in the coordinates and it will bring you to those exact coordinates. So then you’ll know for sure if you’re in the right spot.
(By the way, I put this in World Discovery, where we talk about landmarks and places to fly in the sim.)
The Southfork is on Murphy Road, northeast of the Dallas metro area. It’s there in the default MSFS2020 scenery, but the buildings in the sim are AI generated instead of 3D photogrammetry. I’ll have a photogrammetry rendering done by tomorrow and post it on Flightsim.to
No developer mode on Xbox.,.. thank you for moving this to the correct place here in the forum. Lol that song sticks in my head sometimes toooo
I dont think on Xbox that I can access those custom files but I bet it will help others!
I took off from McKinney airport first and didnt see it, and also the coordinates… I also looked on google maps and found that huge lake that has a bridge across it …actually 2 bridges (or roads)… the southern, more westerly bridge seems to be a good guideline…I flew that and it shows the ranch should be just north and west of that road…
So I bet I am seeing some buildings in the correct area, but its the AI render…
I thought I might see that Southfork Ranch sign off of the road but I think also the Bing Maps, in the game does not include the street maps feature…
Well, @StockDolphin801 , would a few pictures help with the rendering of the place? My buddy Jeff took me to the ranch when i was visiting him from the Netherlands in 2019..
Love that epitaph on JRs grave stone.
Wait, what??? JR died??? Did someone shoot him AGAIN??? I’m just using a Google Earth memory grab to render Southfork into MFS2020 though, so no photos needed.
Oh ■■■■, I hadn’t realized that Xbox version of MSFS2020 might not be compatible with PC scenery add-ons. Does anyone know if this is for sure the case? I can actually put a POI marker directly over Southfork with PC scenery edits. One can start a flight from the world map in the air directly over Southfork in this way or with POI turned on in the sim settings, a floating marker will hover over the area whilst you are flying.
Anyhow, this is the Southfork rendered in 3D Photogrammetry in MSFS2020 for PC. The big building that looks like an aircraft hangar situated behind and to the left of the main house is actually a museum and gift shop. I think one can even rent out the main house now for overnight stays. I mean, if you don’t mind JR’s ghost roaming the hallways at night…
So if you put a pin on your system? would I see it on Xbox? I just never could find it, not even that little circular driveway… Part of it is I dont have a frame of reference other than that big lake I was seeking of earlier…
that pic looks great and look how big that field is, you could land a prop plane and drive right up to the front door!
