That’s the thing - it’s not ukrainian. It was produced briefly in Ukraine, but that does not make it ukrainian. The design is far older than Ukraine as a country, so the aircraft by extension can’t be ukrainian. A lot of people seem to be making the same mistake. The aircraft is Soviet but was produced in ukraine (small letter on purpose, because in these times, it was only geographical region, a satelite region within Soviet Union)
In Poland and China as well.
Yet, we did not call it polish nor chinese, even though the aircraft’s been produced far far longer than in Ukraine in these two countries, not to mention, that both contributed greatly to its improvement over the years.
OK, 1/15 Ukrainian - there were 15 Republics in the USSR, so every soviet individual keeps rights:)))
The AN-2 was manufactured in Soviet Ukraine as well as other parts of the Soviet Union and its amalgamated countries. As a result, the AN-2 is not a Russian aircraft but a Soviet Union Aircraft (or using modern geography: Ukranian).
From this point on let’s keep the discussion to the aircraft itself rather than the politics of where it was manufactured.
I’d love to see the An-22 in the sim. Unique look and smooth lines. Hard to believe this design had its first flight in 1965 yet doesn’t look much older than the A400M from 2009.
I’ve never heard a good explanation for why Soviet civil aircraft had those WW2 bomber-esque glazed noses for so long.
I would love an IL-76. Absolutely love the howl of those engines
They had the glazed noses so they could be converted to military aircraft if needed. These were Cold War designs and part of Soviet doctrine at this time was that certain civilian aircraft had to designed with the possibility of military use age in mind too.
Well, it was inaccurate for me to say “civilian” because the An-22 was supposed to be a military airlifter (although some civilian airlines in the USSR did have glazed noses as well). I should have said non-combat I guess.
But the glazed noses had largely been phased out of bomber aircraft by the time the An-22 was introduced (mid 60’s).
Apparently on some of the airliners they had a navigator sit in the nose.
Most simulators do not have study level, Tupolev Ilyushin model planes. I think it would be good to see it on MSFS
The definition of “study level” is very subjective but I think we can agree that Felis TU154 for XP11 is close to the mark. Felis now made the plane free but I think not open source I’m not very sure about that. If it were open-source maybe somebody would be able to port it to MSFS and that would be awesome.
I’ve decided to make a list of the status of this please feel free to correct/add to the list.
- Mi17 (by Cerasim): Released, update planned for March/April.
- Tu134 (by KAI): Status unknown, this one will never see the light I think.
- An26 (by Cockspur): Status unknown, they seem to be focused in the Phenom and other Jets.
- Su95X (by Headwind Simulations): Exterior released with A320NX interior. This project does seem to be advancing, slowly at open-source pace, but it is moving forward I think.
- Yak18 (by PWDT): Freeware released https://flightsim.to/file/65984/pwdt-yakovlev-yak-18t
- Yak18 (by Nemeth): Payware released long time ago and now abandoned.
- Su31 (by IndiaFoxtEcho): Released payware, it is good for a simpe plane.
- Su26MX (by HeavensDesign and Giba). Another acrobatic Su!
- Su27 (by Deimos): Released. Better than his other russian jets but still nowhere near payware quality.
- Su57 (by Deimos): Released. Very bad.
- Mig29 (by Deimos): Released. Very bad.
- Shavrov Sh-2 (by A1R Design Bureau): Very strange and unknown plane but really good quality.
- An-225 (by Inibuilds): Released, quite good but abandoned.
- Mig21 (by GKS): This is quite good but hasn’t evolved much.
- Su27 by DC Designs: With this one and Deimos version together we still don’t make a Su27.
- Mig15 by Bear Simulations: This is quite good or very good but seems to have been abandonded.
What about the Sukhoi SU-26MX by Heaven Designs & GIBA. It’s wonderful. And on sale.
Added! Thanks!
Don’t forget the GKS/Aviasim MiG-21bis, update delayed but maybe coming in a few weeks.
The Su-27 by SC or DC Designs.
The already released An-2 Colt by ATSimulations in partnership with Asobo/MS.
And the Su-30MKI (if you want to count it as it’s liscense built from Sukhoi in India) by TopMach.
Also the RuSkyGroup Tu-104 but I think that project died.
There are also two unconfirmed Tu-154 projects. One was posted to these forums, but not sure if it’ll see the light. The other is a major update to the SimUniqueLab payware version for P3D (Tu-154b-2) but the author is struggling due to world events so I would be shocked if that one comes too.
It seemed to me the KAI Tu-134 was well advanced into its development, it would be a shame if it doesn’t see the light of day.
Sadly I don’t think it will, it checks all the marks for a dead project.
Isn’t there a Mig-15 or 17 somewhere in the marketplace as well ? I was hesitating to buy it, the screenshots look quite good but no idea about the rest…
