Split gates and taxiway junction names

I am looking at doing a airport (Auckland airport) and I was wondering if split gates work/modeled well in this game before I go a head and create them?
Auckland airport has a number of (A380) gates that have been split into L and R for A320 etc use.
Couple of Questions…
I see that you can name a gate 19,19L and 19R. If I select gate 19 heavy and overlap (the only way that I guess you can do it…) with two small/medium gates 19L/R on each side. Will it work? If a A380/A320 lands and there is a A380/A30 on gate 19/19L Will ATC recognize that gate 19 is occupied or will ATC give gate 19L if a A380 is on gate 19?
Jetways… Can you add two jetways on gate 19 and have them assigned to 19L and 19R and to be operational for two separate aircraft?

Taxiway junctions…
I am a but confused with this…
If you have like a taxiway T intersection… Taxiway F, taxiway A and a runway junction, what do you name those junction links? if you are on taxiway F turning onto A then it could be F but coming the other direction then it could be seen as A or do you leave them blank?

Unfortunately, no, there are no split gates. You can name them 19L, 19 and 19R, and set the radius accordingly. However, they are treated as separate gates. I don’t think ATC will be able to detect the overlap; so you may end up with a B747 in 19 and an A320 in 19R. However, I have not seen MSFS airports congested enough to validate that theory lol. You may still want to mark them like that for realism purposes (let’s say for people flying on VATSIM).

Jetways are 1:1 with gates. A jetway node has a single gate attribute, hence you can only assign it to one gate. Also, if you mark a parking type as GATE_, you must assign a jetway to it. This means that you either create 3 jetways for 19/L/R, or make one of them a GATE_ with a jetway and others as RAMP_GA_ with airstairs. For example, you can make 19 as GATE_HEAVY and 19L/R as RAMP_GA_LARGE.

For taxiway links, I’m not quite able to visualize the layout, but typically for the intersecting links, it really does not matter which taxiway name you choose, as long as there is a named link between the two. So, let’s say you have a long taxiway A, and there is taxiway B merging in the middle of A, creating a T intersection. You’ll have two links from B going left and right onto A. In such cases you can name both the links B.

Thanks heaps for that mate. I’ve decided today to do just that and I created the L and R and overlap it with 19 and I’ve created all of them as gates and added jetways to all… (will see how it looks in the game when I upload itt…)

What I was meaning with the taxiway junction… I have a ‘T/+’ intersection but before the intersection I put in curving junctions. I was confused what to call them? Cause either way I looked at it, if you are on A turning onto B and take that intersection it could be called B, if you are on B and turning onto A it could be seen as A. Is there some aviation gentlemen agreement or is it up to the creator/airport to decide

Right… in the real world it doesn’t matter, because humans are smarter an AI (hopefully, right? :wink:) - they know which curved line to follow to go from Twy A to Twy B.

For the ATC AI, you do need to name them, otherwise the ATC will probably just call them ‘Taxiway’. I don’t think there is a general consensus for the naming, you can choose either Twy names.

I tend to interpret intersections as part of the branched/smaller taxiway. That way, I have a major taxiway and other smaller taxiways are ‘merging’ onto the major one at different angles.

Again, up to you how you want to interpret it :slight_smile:
