Ssd nvme size

NVME SSD ON A BUDGET

Hey! I’m in great doutb betweet buying a new ssd nvme dedicated just to MSFS. I know many of you may shout straight to 1TB or even 2TB… but I’m consider pricing too… 480GB = expensive 1TB=2*expensive wich I’m kinda open to pay if someone convinces me… I’m not a heavy addon/mod user, and I’ll be freeing a 240GB SATA HD in wich I can store them. I also don’t have the funds for heavy payware and I prioritise 1080p textures downloads, since my hardware limits me to this quality.

summary question

considering budged limitations and light addon/mod usage on a 1080p limited hardware (that runs MSFS in BUTTER performance) would you recomend a 480 GB or 960 GB? NVME HD

1TB SSDs down to 70 USD before taxes. Not knowing your budget, is this out of reach?

SSD prices are so much lower now than at any time before, but I respect that a budget is a budget. That said, there’s a Microcenter here that has their house brand 2TB Gen3 NVMe’s for $70 :eyes:

I currently have a dedicated 512 GB NVMe with MSFS (Delux Premium) installed on it, and a dedicated 240 GB SATA SSD for Community Folder content.

My NVMe is about 60% full, and my SATA SSD is about 50% full. So I’m generally OK with storage space for the forseeable future.

If I were starting over from scratch today, I would have a dedicated 1TB NVMe as the absolute minimum I would purchase.

The other dirty little secret is that practical game performance between a SATA3 SSD and an NVMe isn’t that significant, unless you just like running CrystalDiskMark benchmarking over and over. Yeah, yeah, “Direct Storage, blah, blah, blah” but that’s not really a thing even today.

you just said what I needed to hear!
ironically I have a 50U$D bill sitting in my bedroom, but I’m in Brazil and I don’t like the ratings I’d get on that bill if I was to convert it to BRLs…
960GB it’s pretty out of reach… but a gamer has it ways if the cause is justifyable…
I don’t even got the premium edition, so I might even fit community+game all in the same 512GB NVME.
Thank you for sharing! Happy Flying!

I am with @BigCow74 . I have a 500GB NVMe for MSFS data (Official and Community) and it is now 2/3rds full. And I am by no means a big add-on user. I am also quite ruthless in terms of removing unused stuff and junk, so this data is pretty clean and somewhat lean. I am now at the point where I am beginning to feel a bit uncomfortable and would really like to replace the 500GB with a 1TB drive.

I have a 250GB NVMe for my system. It is around 50% full as I avoid running apps on my OS drive. My board only has 2 NVMe slots so I am leaning towards removing the 250GB drive, using the 500GB for OS (plus some incidental stuff) and having a 1TB for MSFS.

From my perspective, capacity and pricewise, 1TB is probably the MSFS sweet spot for “average” users at the moment.

I get your point… but with a limited budged I’m used to ‘bitter’ and ‘unconfortable’ spots with MSFS as long as I get my planes flying/crashing. But thanks for the oppinion!

Considering both Brazils and US minimum wages we can convert the price 1BRL=1USD… so hold on to your chairs, because in this metrics I’d be paying an equivalent of 321USD (with taxes) for a 1TB nvme… Imagine what I could do if I really had all those USDs

You still couldn’t afford tickets to Taylor Swift…

It’s possible to pick up a SATA 500GB SSD for about 20 USD but not all are equal so compare speeds with what you already have and don’t go below. At least then you should not lose any performance.

I have a 500 GB NVMe drive.
2 Partitions.
C: = 200 GB → Windows, Office, Chrome Browser, other apps, etc.
D: = 265 GB → MSFS Deluxe with no addons

no addons, not even the WU_ if my math is wright
you’ll be soon joining my ‘no space left’ club :upside_down_face:

I’m here to say I just got my new 500GB NVME mounted to my f%$in’ G: unit
thankyou all for the opinions

my pc storage config is now:

so excited to go back on air in 3 days , when I will have finally re-downloaded the whole MSFS :sob:
I’m trying to clean some bugs by doing it and also save me the effort of copying it all again
