Stars missing for certain airport

When I try to input a star for a certain airport there are none

Where are you trying to input the information?
Are you using the base nav package or Navigraph?
Where are you getting the STAR info?
What specific airport?

  1. DEP/ARR

  2. Navigraph

  3. Simbrief

  4. KORD

Navigraph.
Try opening the Navigraph Nav Data Center and uninstall the Airac. Reinstal/update and try again.

If Simbrief says it is available, Navigraph data contains it. When MSFS does an airac update it will overwrite your Navigraph data. You need to re-update through the Nav Data Center.

I dont have a active navigraph subscription

In that case you will find lots of stuff missing.
The MSFS/NavBlu data is very limited compared to Jeppeson, where Navigraph gets their data.

I suggest creating your flight plan and confirming the existence of the SID/STAR/APP you want in the world map. If it doesn’t show up in there then you won’t be able to enter it into the FMS/Garmin.

Modify your plan accordingly and use the data that exists in the NavBlu airac.

I do use a navigraph data but dont have sub so you are saying i have to purchase it again?

You will need to reinstall your navigraph data by whatever means you used to do it the first time. The data will be overwritten every month when the sim downloads the current cycle, so you will need to manually install the navigraph data each time.

Compare the runways in the sim scenery with the real world charts. When they are differ (ie missing runway or wrong runway idents) then the sim suppress the arrivals.

This is the logic in the sim:
When a terminal procedure can’t be assigned to a runway, at least the arrivals will be suppress ed and can"t be selected.

When you use as an example the FSDT KORD 3rd party scenery, all runways are included and you can select all arrivals too (using Navigraph Navdata Center 1.0.4 and AIRAC 2112 installed).

This is a sim limitation due the outdated KORD scenery in MSFS

For what they charge for the annual airac data, I would say, “well worth it”. The annual Ultimate also gives you all the charts integrated right into the sim, for the price of one cappuccino per month. Pretty easy to justify.

I heard this only happens when a runway gets added or removed

Edit: So I dont need to pay every month i could just get it for a month but then if Asobo doesnt add any new runways to a airport then i should be fine?

Different data providers have different coverage. NavBlu is a European provider. For the most part, if you are flying commercial routes in Europe you will be well covered. Get off the beaten path and you will need Jepp charts. Jepp is probably the most comprehensive database worldwide.

Navigraph use Jeppeson data. MSFS uses NavBlu data.

Major European and North American international airports are covered quite well by NavBlu. The data lacks significantly when you start trying to fly in/out of municipal or even regional airports.

All data is refreshed monthly. There is no requirement to do so in the sim. If you are using year old Jepp data, you will be fine as it has nothing to do with Asobo. If an airport exists in real life, the airport likely exists in the Jepp database. If Asobo adds a missing real world airport, you likely already have the data in your old Navigraph data. If it is missing in the NavBlu data then it is not likely to be added into the MSFS database.

I still say that for less than 10 bucks per month (6.5 euro, not sure where you live) it is just so much easier to have up to date Navigraph charts and flight planning right on the MSFS toolbar. Not to mention the ease of updating.

What I was asking is that as long as Asobo doesnt add or remove runways i dont need to update navdata?

If you have a copy of navigraph data, it will need to be reinstalled over the MSFS data every time they do a monthly airac update. Your navigraph data will be overwritten.

why will it be overwritten? and how do i reinstall?

There is only one nav data DB. Every month the new airac cycle is released. When that happens MSFS replaces the old data with the new.

Your Navigraph airac data that you installed is replaced with the new nav data.

By whatever manual method you installed the navigraph data in the first place.

If its replaced then how come i dont have problems inputting waypoints cause i thought waypoints get changed

No.
The NavBlu database contains waypoints as well.

Every month a new nav database is generated. Very little data is changed but that is how the real world works. It ensures pilots have the most up to date data.

MSFS uses the real world nav data as provided by NavBlu, so every month you are going to have an update pushed through. This update overwrites whatever nav data file you have installed.

If you have an old navigraph airac installed, it will be overwritten. If you want to have access to the additional data that is included in the navigraph DB you will need to replace it.

There are routes I fly IRL that I have been flying for 50 years. The waypoints have not changed from the first time I flew over them. Most data never changes. Some does. New approaches are added and old ones are deleted.

Just know that every month you will need to put your old Navigraph data back in or you will find plenty of SIDs, STARs and APPs that don’t exist in the NavBlu/MSFS data.

dont you mean new navigraph data after the new msfs airac cycle is released

I thought you didn’t want to buy new data?

If you have purchased “new” Navigraph data, yes. Otherwise you would re-install the one you have.

This is why I suggested getting a subscription. Problem solved. Just run the Nav Data Center after each airac cycle from MSFS and you always have the most recent Navigraph data installed.
