Start flight without walkaround (MSFS2024)

Thanks Jason! Using your info, as well as information and video provided by FlyerOneZero, I’ve been able to programme my own personalized sequence at the start of each flight. :+1:

Can you please add a global assistance setting to remove the need for walking round an aircraft to remove chicks, orange engine covers etc.

Fantastic, I’ll give that a go! Thanks.

A nice auto remove would be nice on Xbox

As I use Shift-C to enter the cockpit I’ve assigned this to the same key combo.

I’ve read earlier in this thread that it doesnt work on all aircraft though?

I’ve seen those posts but personally I haven’t had any issues with the aircraft I use. I mainly use third party aircraft.

But that won’t necessarily remove covers and wheel chocks which may make it hard to fly. This only seems to happen with payware planes.

Are you saying that “Quick Preflight” may not work I f assigned to the same key combo as “Enter A/c” or that “Quick Preflight” doesn’t always remove all chocks/blanks etc.?

Ideally there should be an option to remove all that stuff.

There is.

Quick preflight does not always remove all covers and chocks. Basically, it removes any standard covers and chocks, of which there are seven sets in MSFS 2024 as of SU4, but it doesn’t remove additional covers that have been added beyond those seven. This is not always a payware aircraft thing, either - the default TBM930 and the Cirrus SR22 both have a canopy cover which is non-standard, and the SR22 has tie-downs.

I haven’t tested quick preflight, since I use a different method to skip the walkaround, but it might be that Asobo has catered for the non-standard covers in the default aircraft; but any third party that does non-standard covers will likely not work with the quick preflight key. It’s a band-aid, and a poor one at that, for a problem that would be much more easily solved by letting you turn the walkaround off altogether. However, I suspect Asobo has coded itself into a corner on this one and the covers + chocks would still be in place, and this would require 3rd parties to update their aircraft again to allow for it.

There’s no one single universal method of skipping the walkaround and removing all covers that works for all planes, all the time. The closest you can get is a custom script in something like Spad.neXt or AAO or via FSUIPC that removes all the standard covers, and then can have non-standard covers for the aircraft you fly added to it.

If you look up-thread, I’ve posted a solution for Spad.neXt that works well, but you do have to have Spad and that’s not a free or simple solution. There’s also at least one third party tool that does it, but whether / how it caters for non-standard covers I don’t know.

Ok. As I mentioned, I haven’t had this issue on the a/c I typically fly. That said I was just pointing out that I’ve assigned Quick Flight to the Shift-C key bind adding to this post:

That’s why it wasn’t clear what you were referring to:

Replying to @Wilem35 would’ve been more appropriate and less confusing.

Yes, I see your point now. Apologies for any confusion.

You can add the default CJ4 to the list too. It has s cannot cover and tie downs that are not removed with the skip preflight option.

Not to mention that for those of us who use the “legacy” interface option, is extra annoying to have to change it to “lock” just to take off an engine cover and the chocks, and back to “legacy” every single time.

If I am not mistaken, I don’t think you need to use the “lock” mode to be able to remove external covers/chocks, you just need to click on the items to remove them or am I missing something ?. The lock mode highlight them and can provide tool tips.

Even if that were true, the quick preflight keybind would solve that issue anyway.

So this might be something that needs fixed on a per-aircraft basis, but it seems like quite a few aircraft don’t have a correct “cold and dark” panel state configured if you skip walkaround. If you don’t skip walkaround, you enter a truly cold and dark cockpit - however if you toggle the option on to skip the walkaround, it seems to be in some quasi turnaround state with batteries and some avionics already turned on.

For this reason I’ll be leaving the walkaround enabled and continuing to use my one-click combo to enter the aircraft and remove all covers, at least until this is resolved and starting in the aircraft also means starting in a proper C&D state.
