Start flight without walkaround (MSFS2024)

Your definition of “pejorative” and mine obviously differ. We could get in to a whole argument about how hypersensitivity to the smallest of slights is killing informed debate in western democracies, but that would be totally inappropriate for this thread, let alone the forum as a whole. I’ve said my piece and will leave it there…

Folks, just a reminder to keep your posts on topic.

We’re all nerds here dude, relax.

Oh cool, I must have misread the intent of the original post. Since we’re all nerds here, we’re all actually on the same team that actually likes the realism and immersion provided by a bug-free, optional walkaround mode.

I do FREE Flights and no walk around

Its become like GTA only without the guns. Even the moose in the startup video looks tike the ones where Trevor goes elk hunting.

I really like the walkaround feature. They could add an option to disable it by default so the user spawns in the cockpit initially. Though having to press a button is not really a big deal.

But if more Scenery developers start adding collision in their airports, we can walk up stairs and walk around in the terminal. That would be really nice. GSX already made their airstairs so you can climb them. It would also be nice if you could walk into an aircraft, and enter the cockpit when you open the cockpit door from the other side.

We’re nerds fighting over pixels on a screen :joy:

Exactly to your point.
It isn’t impossible to make it a toggle feature. Please both sides of the community and everyone stays happy.

Maybe they could add a “plane state page” to the new EFB. So many 2020 developers have a plane state included in their EFB. There’s one on Inibuild aircraft in 2024 and also Just Flight include different states on their aircraft.

Having to press shift+c isn’t a big deal. Not being able to start a flight without having to walk around and awkwardly click away the chocks, covers, etc., is a big deal.

My vote is for an option on how to start the flight right before starting it (remembering the last choice):

  • Outside of the aircraft (cold and dark)
  • Outside of the aircraft (turnaround)
  • Inside of the aircraft (cold and dark)
  • Inside of the aircraft (turnaround)
  • Inside of the aircraft (engines running)

Yeah but can’t this be done inside the aircraft on the EFB??

I was gonna do my first fulltime flight today. Meaning I set up all my DeskPit peripherals - Yoke, throttle, button boxes, tablets as MFD/PFD… all the stuff. I had finally set up all of them and wanted to take out a Citation for my maiden voyage.

So I start the flight cold and dark at the parking spot and… realised that I had forgotten about the walkaround alltogether !

So I had to reach around my controls to get a hold of my keyboard wich is parked way, waaaay behind my monitor at this point.

I am pretty sure I tore something twisting myself into a half pretzel to reach the arrow keys to move around. Took me out of the immersion too.

So yeah… lets make this optional please.

the engine covers are there so that the engine manufacturer gets their exposure. my $.02

And made even more annoying when you cannot use the mouse to look around without it spinning wildly and ending up looking at your feet.

An option is always a good way. But having extra sim bindings to remove all stuff by just pressing a key or a button could be another one.

We can already jump in/out binding “Take Control of Character” using a single button or even a combo (two buttons, one acting as a modifier).

Using SPAD.neXt or any other app like AxisAndOhs, we can toggle all covers and chocks using different aircraft variables or events. Therefore everything is removed in one button press.

And I’m always in VR, never in 2D mode.

If all theses covers and chocks events could be also exposed in MSFS Controls UI, then the “problem” would be solved.

Thanks for the spad events. I’ll have to try these.

I can’t express how annoying this really is. I am a commercial pilot-Flight Instructor who has amassed 30,000 hours in real airplanes, over 32 years. The last thing I need or want to do is maneuver myself around the aircraft and do any kind of inspection. I am here because I just want to fly.

I see this is in the MSFS2020 forum but MSFS 2024 now has what appears to be a mandatory walkaround function. I’d have to agree. It would be great to make this an option that you can turn on/off in settings. If off - You load up in the aircraft. Maybe this is an option already? I haven’t looked so won’t be too critical just yet lol.
