Static stars during fly …is it normal?

Today I fly from Sydney to Perth , clear sky , night.
From the cockpit I observe the stars , and for all flight they are static …I is it normal ?

I think it probably is close to normal, other than the fact that the entire sky is slightly off due to being a picture instead of rendering based on astronomic data like previous sims. If you were to set up a time-lapse (or just move the time slider) you’d see the stars rotate across the sky, so the stars aren’t really “static.” The only thing you’ll probably never see in the sim is the “twinkle” effect from heat shimmer that you see from the ground on a warm summer night.

It’s funny… I’ve been thinking the exact opposite: why are the stars changing position when I’m on a straight and level flight path with zero turbulence? The closest star system to Earth is Alpha Centauri, which is nearly 4-1/2 light years away.

Apparent movement of the stars is because of Earth’s rotation on its axis: that’s much too slow to notice as apparent motion while looking at the night sky. That’s why there used to be navigators on Trans-Continental flights in “the old days.” The navigator could fix the position of the aircraft when over the Atlantic by using a sextant, just like sailors use. WWII era aircraft even had an “Aerodome” for taking the position of the stars.

I hate the stars… my biggest dislike of the game. They’re far too bright and far too big.

They should rotate. Interesting if they don’t.

However Sydney to Perth you are flying west, so don’t expect too much change. Do the return leg and see what happens then.
